The Fix always has a full breakdown of significant NHL slates for our Front Office subscribers, but now we’re also going to be highlighting a few value plays for everyone on most days with big NHL slates. Below you’ll find three or four players who are cheap and undervalued in today’s DraftKings contests.

Peter Holland – C – Toronto Maple Leafs – $3000

The play is a high risk gamble because of the fact that Holland typically plays less than 12 minutes a night. If you are looking for a very cheap center that could at least do something, the Toronto pivot may just be worth a shot. Again, no one expects all of these to pan out, but there are some honorable mentions as always.

Holland has a way of being at the right place at the right time at least once or twice a game. If he executes even once, then his value has been hit and likely exceeded. This is the fun time of season where you run with more and more gambles in your process. Just be patient as Holland is a cheap flier of cheap fliers when one really thinks about it.

Blake Comeau – LW – Colorado Avalanche – $2800

The Colorado Avalanche can be an adventure to watch but for some reason Comeau has found a way to end up with a pretty prominent second line role, and hey, he even gets a little power play time to boot. When you get down to these lower priced talents, it is looking more than just at the box score.

Comeau does not average a ton of shots per game (1.3 in his last ten games) but he has a knack for getting in the dirty areas which seems a rarity at times for the Avalanche. Remember, Colorado still is in the bottom ten when it comes to shots per 60, so their chances do not often come easily. If the left winger averages around 17 minutes a night, that just gives people an easy way to add another cheap flier to their bottom line.

Nathan Beaulieu – D – Montreal Canadiens – $3100

This is a short and sweet one but Beaulieu has been progressively improving this year in Montreal. The defenseman is putting up over two blocks a game and one shot on goal a night. That puts his likely floor at 1.5 points which means it does not take much for him to hit value. He does need to hit the net more as it feels like he has been missing a ton (two out of three attempts have missed over the last dozen contests).

Simply as the Montreal coaching staff gives him more responsibility, his price will possibly keep on going up. One gets the feeling that eventually he may be a 20-minute per night defenseman in time.

Eddie Lack – G – Carolina Hurricanes – $6300

Carolina is one of those teams that just generates a lot of chances and yet scores so little. However, they do seem to fare pretty well against New Jersey. Lack’s numbers are awful but one just gets this sense that this cannot go on forever. There have been flashes of good play, but the Hurricanes do have these breakdowns and unfortunately so does Lack. These often seem to go hand in hand.

That being said, the backup goalie has more chances to usurp Cam Ward or at least get more playing time. If he can get it together, the goaltender might be a decent but very high risk GPP play on a Thursday night where there is a lot to choose from.
