Daily Fantasy Hockey Strategy: Value Picks, February 15th

The Fix always has a full breakdown of significant NHL slates for our Front Office subscribers, but now we’re also going to be highlighting a few value plays for everyone on most days with big NHL slates. Below you’ll find three or four players who are cheap and undervalued in today’s main DraftKings contests as well as some FanDuel contests from 7:00 pm on.

If you’d like to read our full breakdown of tonight’s slate, complete with player rankings, you can become a Front Office member or purchase today’s breakdown individually here.

DRAFTKINGS

Joseph Blandisi — New Jersey Devils–$3900 ($3800 on FanDuel)

This is a solid salary flier in the sense that Blandisi has ways of absolutely pissing off the Philadelphia Flyers. Expect him to get back more to his top six minutes in a game where New Jersey must win. He has 11 points in his last 14 games and the scary part is he could have more.

Joonas Kemppainen — Boston Bruins –$2600 ($3000 on FanDuel)

If there is anyone who is surprised by this then yes, you should raise your hand. Kemmpainen scored a gem of a short handed goal against Detroit and while Patrice Bergeron is out, the young Finnish player could see a nice boost. He played over 18 minutes on Sunday afternoon and looked dangerous on several plays. They are playing Columbus who has been a little stingy lately, but they are what they are.

Patrik Nemeth — Dallas Stars — $2700 ($3400 on FanDuel)

Nemeth’s is now starting to at least see less scratches and a little more ice time. He has five points in the last five games and should be considered a value play even on Tuesday despite Dallas being on the back end of a back to back. Dallas is entertaining, generates chances, and Nemeth definitely is more offensive minded. It never hurts to have an extra cap relief option.

Eddie Lack — Carolina Hurricanes — $6800 ($6800 on FanDuel)

We did consider others, but Lack is going to probably run the show for a bit as Cam Ward recovers from injury. It is less than two weeks before the trade deadline and Carolina was looking forward to…well forget that! Lack and Carolina are still on the edge of the playoff race and if the “Taco Man” can lead them just a bit, they still have a slight shot. Lack has been putting up average to slightly above average numbers of late.

FANDUEL

Cody Eakin — Dallas Stars –$3900

I know we are gambling hard here, but Eakin came back and promptly scored a goal on Monday night. Monitor where he plays permanently but he will be mixed on the top six from time to time and that immediately boosts his value. He is a high risk flier on Tuesday night.

Kris Versteeg — Carolina Hurricanes–$3800

This could be fun as people forget of how good Versteeg has been at home. Basically, he averages nearly a point a game and around four daily fantasy points per contest. This is not to be mean but why haven’t you taken a shot on this play already? Look particularly toward the power play because he has had a bevy of chances lately but has been a little snake bitten.

David Schlemko — New Jersey Devils — $3700

This is like “oh what the hell.” Let’s have some fun with this. Schlemko has seven points in the last ten games while having a flair for the dramatic. The moderately high risk play here is only designated that because of the fact that New Jersey has scored only special teams goals in the last four games. Hey, the even strength goals have to come sometime and Philadelphia might be a likely target for those.
