Daily Fantasy Hockey Strategy: Value Picks, January 26th

The Fix always has a full breakdown of significant NHL slates for our Front Office subscribers, but now we’re also going to be highlighting a few value plays for everyone on most days with big NHL slates. Below you’ll find three or four players who are cheap and undervalued in today’s DraftKings contests as well as some FanDuel contests.

If you’d like to read our full breakdown of tonight’s slate, complete with player rankings, you can become a Front Office member or purchase today’s breakdown individually here.

DRAFTKINGS

Lars Eller — Montreal Canadiens–$3100

This is the easy salary filler simply out of default in the center position. Joseph Blandisi was a hair cheaper at $3000, but with New Jersey’s uncertainty of shot generation, pivoting away to Eller is not a half bad idea. Montreal faces Columbus on the back end of a home and home. Needless to say, Columbus has little defense but in some ways the same is true for Montreal. It could be an eventful game which is good for Eller owners.

Alex Burmistrov — Winnipeg Jets –$2600 ($3800 on FanDuel)

If Bryan Little cannot give it a go, then Winnipeg would be without their top two centers and basically Burmistrov would be a de facto top line center. That means an obvious upgrade in player talent, but the value is just too great to pass up. If he even fires four or five shots on net then the forward has already exceeded value. This is rather low risk to be honest.

Mattias Ekholm — Nashville Predators — $3800 ($4500 on FanDuel)

Ekholm may be more of a DraftKings type of play, but there is no denying that he is starting to realize some of his potential. It did not hurt that he had two goals in his last game and is firing the puck more on net than missing it. As teams continue to key on Shea Weber and Roman Josi, Ekholm will keep having these chances to step up. So far he has performed pretty well.

Connor Hellebuyck — Winnipeg Jets — $7300 ($6700 on FanDuel)

We did consider Eddie Lack but for some reason Hellebuyck is due for a little luck given the fact that Winnipeg has scored five goals in Hellebuyck’s last five losses. He has a .927 save percentage in his last ten games and literally just is not getting that little bit of luck. That can be Winnipeg. Time is running short and Winnipeg has to get it going.

FANDUEL

Bo Horvat — Vancouver Canucks –$3600

I know this is nuts, but somehow despite his hot streak, Vancouver’s Horvat is still softly priced on the site. Granted, he is a -23 on the season, but ten points in his last ten games is hard to pass up. And given a good matchup against Nashville, Horvat deserves a shot.

Bobby Farnham— New Jersey Devils–$3600

This could blow up in our faces massively, but Farnham is going to face his former team. Do remember that FanDuel counts penalty minutes and this game could get feisty quickly as the forward just plays that nasty type of style. It is why again we also considered Blandisi also here. Risky situations can often produce the most unexpected results.

Eddie Lack —Carolina Hurricanes–$6800

Lack faces a Chicago team looking ahead to bigger things as the All-Star Break approaches. He has alternated wins and losses over his last six starts but salary relief is salary relief. The Blackhawks are a huge test, but as we have seen with some of the old Southeast Division teams, they come up with an effort against Chicago. That may happen here.
