Fantasy Baseball Final: April 18th

April 18th saw a little bit of everything when it comes to fantasy baseball. In this article you’ll find updates on bullpen’s around the league, lineup changes, who was injured, and more.

If You Only Read One Thing…

It’s still too early to overreact by what has happened this season in the majors, and there is no need to panic after just two weeks. Kris Bryant made his highliy anticipated debut on Friday, going 0/4 with three strikeouts. He rebounded on Saturday going 2/3 and driving in the first run of his career. It’s too early to overreact and start buying and selling for players that might be starting off hot or slow.

 Just As We Expected…

Felix Hernandez went 7 innings, gave up 2 hits and 2 walks, 1 earned run, and struck out 12 at home against the Rangers. Felix was listed as day-to-day with an ankle injury after his previous start in Oakland where he struggled, but he didn’t miss any time and returned to his dominant self and getting back on track.

But We Didn’t See This Coming…

Miguel Montero went 2/4 against the Padres on Saturday, hitting 2 home runs and driving in three runs. Montero matched his season total in hits with those two home runs Saturday, as he was hitting .105 before those two bombs. He was brought to Chicago in the offseason to give a little more offense behind the plate, and some thought that moving to a new location would be a good move to get Montero back on track.

Save Chances

Alex Torres and Jesse Chavez were the two surprises to get a save on Saturday, and both came at an odd expense. Chavez pitched three and 2/3 innings to pick up the save for the A’s, and Alex Torres only pitched 1/3 of the 9th to record his first save of the year. Jeurys Familia was given the night off on by Manager Terry Collins, which allowed Carlos Torres the opportunity to get the ball in the 9th inning when it was a non save situation. Carlos Torres was only able to record two outs and was chased after allowing three runs. He eventually handed the ball over to Alex Torres who was able to record the save by getting the final out.

Don’t expect many, if anymore, saves from either of these two.

Injuries…

This category has been especially tough for my team so far this season, as I now have 7 players that are on the disabled list. This is partially my fault, as I drafted four of them, but the three that have hit the DL since (David Wright, Carlos Gomez and Greg Holland) really hurt. Saturday, Greg Holland was placed on the 15 day DL with a pectoral strain, which was seemingly out of nowhere.

Justin Upton is dealing with a quad strain for the Padres and is listed as DTD.

Alcides Escobar missed Saturday’s game against the Royals because of a knee injury.

Jonathan Schoop hit the disabled list on Saturday with a PCL tear in his knee after being slid into hard by Pablo Sandoval.

Matt Holliday was removed from the game on Saturday with a back injury, but manager Mike Matheny said that Holliday would be good to go for Sudnay’s matchup against the Reds.

It’s been a tough year so far for injuries around the MLB, and Saturday was another busy day of it.
