2014 Fantasy Football, Week 14 Waiver Wire: Johnny Football the Prime Pickup
Week 13 of the National Football League is in the books. And with that, football fans are looking towards the fantasy football waiver wire to see if their team can be improved in any way with the playoffs on the horizon.
Before we get to this week’s potential waiver wire pickups, it’s important to note that I do not have a problem spending my first waiver priority on a few players from the list below, especially if you’re planning for the playoff push or simply preventing your opponents from grabbing a player that could assist them in their quest for your league’s championship. Also, players listed below are in no particular order, so be sure to read them all.
Week 14 Byes: none
Johnny Manziel | Cleveland
The Browns pulled Brian Hoyer on Sunday and gave Johnny Manziel the keys to the offense. Manziel dropped back 10 times, going 5-for-8 for 67 yards through the air while rushing twice for 13 yards, a touchdown and a fumble. Manziel’s ability to accumulate yardage both on the ground and through the air arguably makes him a top 15 quarterback option going forward — if he gets the nod. The Browns’ brass have yet to name a starting quarterback for week 14, so keep a close eye on the situation, but there’s no reason to believe that Cleveland would go back to Hoyer.

Waiver Priority Worthy: 1 and lower
Spend this much FAAB to acquire: 40% or more
Players I’d drop for him: Brian Hoyer, Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown
Dan Herron | Colts and Doug Martin | Buccanneers
Of the two, Boom Herron is the add. We spoke about Boom’s abilities in last week’s waiver wire article, so we don’t want to beat a dead horse here, but his eight carries for 88 yards (11 yards/carry) and a touchdown seems like it should be mentioned once again. Going forward, Herron and the Colts will face the Cleveland and Houston –both of which are relatively fair matchups for ball carriers — before running into the Cowboys in week 16 (Championship Week, for most).
Sure, the Bucs lost again, but Doug Martin actually took on the lion’s share of carries in Tampa (18) for 58 yards and a touchdown, then added one reception for three yards through the air. I still don’t think he’s very good at football, but if you’re looking ahead to week 15 and potentially need a back, Tampa has a relatively decent matchup against Carolina and Martin may be able to fill that need.

Players I’d drop for him: Jonas Gray, Alfred Blue, Bryce Brown
Davante Adams | Packers and Donte Moncrief | Indianapolis
Rookie Davante Adams hauled in six receptions on 10 targets for a season-high 121 yards (20.2 yards/reception). He failed to get into the end zone and did drop a pass, but Adams is sure starting to live up to the hype that many real and fake football analysts tossed his way since the preseason. With opposing defenses obviously paying attention to Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, Adams should have himself a fine time being the third wheel at the Packer party.
Moncrief only saw four targets, but he reeled in three of them for 134 yards and two touchdowns. The extreme yards per catch (44.7) is attributed to the 79 yarder the rookie hauled in from Andrew Luck, so it’s extremely unlikely that rate will continue, but his ability to break those types of plays is a good sign of things to come. Love this guy in keeper and dynasty formats, possibly more than the other young receivers mentioned here since he has Andrew Luck under center. Davante Adams in a close second.

Waiver Priority Worthy: 1 and lower
Spend this much FAAB to acquire: 35-40% or more
Players I’d drop for him: Eric Decker, Cordarrelle Patterson, Justin Hunter
Stedman Bailey | Rams and Robert Woods | Buffalo
Another pass catcher who saw a lot of hype during the preseason is Stedman Bailey. He’s starting to see an increased role in the Rams offense — 12 receptions on 15 targets for 189 yards and one score in the past two weeks — so, Bailey could be an intriguing flex play for those in deep season-long leagues. Consider him in daily leagues with a salary under $5,000 as of today on DraftKings.
Woods has 13 receptions for 189 yards and a touchdown over the last two weeks, which isn’t all that bad. The Bills pull the Broncos and Packers in the next two weeks, meaning, they are likely to be playing from behind for a good amount of time resulting in a high volume passing game.
**The wide receivers I’ve listed are in the order I’d claim them. Kenny Stills appeared a few weeks back, but would be number one on this list if I wrote him up again.

They play the Jets and Redskins, respectively. Shouldn’t need more analysis than that.
