2013 Fantasy Football: The Fix’s Week Seven Injury Report
Welcome to the seventh entry of The Fix’s Fantasy Football Injury Report. Each week I (@Rich_Migs) will cover several key fantasy football related injuries. The idea is not to cover every football injury, but instead cover the notable ones that have direct fantasy implications. As the season continues, the report will address the most recent injuries and their fantasy football related consequences.
I will try to avoid repeating names too often from week to week unless there is news to report. If you would like to see the injury list for Week 6, please click here. You can see all my injury reports (and my other work) by following my archive here.
We lost another big play WR this week.
Week Seven:
Player |
Injury |
Status/Update |
Stock Risers/Fallers |
Randall Cobb (WR) |
Fractured Right Fibula |
Out for Week 7: Cobb will be out six to eight with a broken fibula. It is obviously a major blow to fantasy owners. |
Jordy Nelson (WR), James Jones (WR), Jermichael Finley (TE). James Jones is going to be a game time decision with a knee injury, but consider his arrow pointing upward once he gets healthy. Nelson will be a big time WR1 the rest of the season and perhaps Finley can salvage what has been a disappointing season thus far with some extra targets. |
Matt Schaub (QB) |
Ankle/Foot |
Questionable for Week 7: Schaub’s tough season continues as he was rolled up on this week. The team says they won’t know until later in the week if he will play or not. Either way, he should be on your deep bench or waiver wire. |
T.J. Yates (QB). I suppose we can downgrade the majority of the pass catchers on the Texans here, but it isn’t as if Schaub has been very good. Andre Johnson owners are probably hoping for a healthy Schaub, so that certainly says something about Yates. He plays at K.C. this week, so don’t do anything crazy like stream him in your 2-QB leagues. |
Danny Amendola (WR) |
Head Injury |
Questionable for Week 7: I’m going to assume Amendola received a concussion on the hit he took. I am also going to assume that he is missing next week’s game. Neither of these things are certain yet, but it would be hard to expect otherwise. |
Julian Edelman (WR). With Gronk also questionable heading into the week, Edelman has a chance to breakthrough again. Bill Belichick does make fantasy owners scratch their noggins with who actually sees playing time, but Edelman seems like a safe bet this week vs. a Jets’ secondary that is pretty beat up. |
DeMarco Murray (RB) |
Sprained Left MCL |
Doubtful for Week 7: Reports say this injury can take 2-4 weeks to heal, so it is more than likely that Murray will miss week seven. |
Lance Dunbar (RB). Joseph Randle (RB). Dunbar is dealing with a hamstring injury, so if he isn’t able to go, Randle is expected to handle the bulk of the carries. If Dunbar is a go, he’s a decent plug-n-play vs. the Eagles. |
Mike Goodson (RB) |
Torn ACL and MCL |
Out for season: Goodson was starting to make a difference on the field, so it does hurt the Jets’ offense a bit moving forward. He is done for the year. |
Bilal Powell (RB), Chris Ivory (RB). Powell should now see an increase of snaps, especially on third downs. Ivory may get 8-10 carries per game, but unless he really gets going and stays healthy, this is Powell’s chance to become a viable flex option again. If Ivory were to get dinged up again, Powell would then be on the RB2 radar. |
Cecil Shorts (WR) |
AC Joint |
Questionable for Week 7: Shorts isn’t ruled out yet, but the injury doesn’t sound pretty. |
Justin Blackmon (WR). Blackmon is already playing like a top WR, but he will be given even more targets if Shorts is out. Blackmon may have to worry about more double coverage and attention, but he is playing like an absolute beast right now. |
Other Injury Related News:
- Jimmy Graham (TE) seems to have avoided major injury and should be back following his team’s bye week.
- Rob Gronkowski (TE) is testing the patience of owners. There have been reports that he will be back for week seven or eight.
- Larry Fitzgerald (WR) injured his other hamstring. This has been a frustrating two seasons for a man that was once considered the best at his position. He is expected to play this week vs. Seattle.
- James Jones (WR) is hurt with a PCL sprain and may miss this week. Owners should hang in there as once healthy; he should get plenty of targets with Cobb out for 6-8 weeks.
- Joique Bell (RB) sustained a rib injury. X-rays came back negative and he may still play this week.
- Calvin Johnson (WR) is dealing with a knee issue. He is expected to play, but we will know more later in the week.
