2014 Fantasy Hockey Daily Fix, November 18th
Tonight there are an incredible 11 games on the slate, so let’s get right to the action by breaking things down. Don’t forget, if you are a new user to Draft Kings please use this link to sign up!
Game Breakdowns:
St Louis Blues @ Boston Bruins
The Bruins have won five straight games at home despite their serious defensive issues since Zdeno Chara went down with a knee injury. However, things are worse now for Boston than they were before, as Brad Marchand has been ruled out for today’s game according to Nicholas Goss of NESN.com. In addition, Head Coach Claude Julien said this..
Julien also said if Bruins make a call up this afternoon, Krejci won’t play. Wouldn’t say who would be called up.

This can be potentially huge. If Krejci misses, a Blues stack is in play. For now, I love Jori Lehtera ( $6,100 ), Vladimir Tarasenko ( $7,400 ) and Jaden Schwartz ( $7,500 ). They are top plays tonight. I will not be trusting any Bruins forwards given the slew of injuries, and their general inconsistency.
Jake Allen would be a usable goaltender in this scenario, but certainly not for $8,700.
Tampa Bay Lightning @ New York Islanders
It’s unfortunate that revenge games in hockey aren’t really a thing for goaltenders, only because there’s so much sheer randomness involved when a puck is fired towards the net. Evgeni Nabokov gets the start tonight for the Lightning against his former team in a game that Vegas has at a 6.0 O/U. The Bolts are coming off a really big statement win on the road (5-1) against the New York Rangers last night, and whether they will be riding that emotional high in a good way or a bad way, remains to be seen.
A full Lightning stack is always in play for GPP’s, but my favorite plays in cash games are Nikita Kucherov ( $4,800 ), Tyler Johnson ( $6,200 ), Ondrej Palat ( $4,800 ) and Steven Stamkos ( $7,700 ).
For the Islanders, obviously Kyle Okposo ( $5,600 ) is an incredibly strong play for his price, and pairing him with John Tavares ( $6,700 ) is always a great GPP idea. One sneaky guy though that I think I’d prefer to get exposure to for the Islanders is Josh Bailey. He is now skating with the two aforementioned players, and as a result he has a point in five of his last six games. He’s just $4,100 and gives you the cheapest cash game exposure to this trio. I also love Nick Leddy ( $3,800 ) as a value defenseman
My favorite two GPP ideas are full Islander stacks, and full Lightning stacks, or even combine them. These types of lineups always have the most upside in high over/under games. Don’t sleep on a line stack of Anders Lee – Ryan Strome – Brock Nelson. These three players are quite talented, and will draw the most inexperienced line for Tampa Bay. The only drawback with such a stack, is that all three are centers.
Nashville Predators @ Toronto Maple Leafs
My second favorite mini stack of the day is by far Filip Forsberg ( $7,400 ) and James Neal ( $7,000 ). These two electric forwards have been absolutely on fire, and now they get to face the defensive dumpster fire that is the Toronto Maple Leafs. Forsberg has 12 point in 8 road games. He had his 13 points in seven games streak snapped last time out against the Winnipeg Jets. Look for him to get back on track in a big way tonight. The Leafs just allowed six goals to the Sabres. Let that sink in.
Pittsburgh Penguins @ Montreal Canadiens
This game sports the best value play of the day Blake Comeau ( $2,900 ) at winger. The former Blue Jacket has been elevated to the first line with Sidney Crosby ( $8,800 ). Another solid value play is Nick Spaling ( $2,700 ) who is center eligible, but will be on the wing with Evgeni Malkin ( $7,100 ). Swedish winger Patric Hornqvist ( $7,000 ) is another solid play, but is behind wingers Forsberg, Neal, Schwartz, Alex Ovechkin and Tarasenko in my opinion. This game could be fairly high scoring, so it’s not smart to totally ignore it in GPPs (even Montreal players), but they aren’t cash plays.
San Jose Sharks @ Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres have been absolutely horrifying against opposing #2 lines this season, which makes Logan Couture ( $6,200 ) and Patrick Marleau ( $5,900 ) my favorite mini stack of the day. Marc Edouard Vlasic is just $3,100 and makes for a very nice value defenseman in your cash games. Troy Grosenick ( $6,200 ) put up a 45-save shutout in his NHL debut against the Carolina Hurricanes, and he gets the call again tonight for the Sharks against a Sabres team coming off a six goal outburst against the Leafs. Nonetheless, it’s safe to say the Sabres are in line for one of their patented putrid offensive performances after a game like that. Grosenick is my top goalie tonight for value.
All Sharks are in play for GPPs, and a stack is advised.
