2013 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: June 28
DraftKings Team of the Day
Today I’m doing something new – playing in a Triple Up contest. It’s only a dollar, but I’ve got a 30 percent chance of winning back $3. When you sign up at DraftKings be sure to claim your deposit bonus.
Player | Matchup | Salary | Note |
---|---|---|---|
SP – Gerrit Cole |
vs. Milwaukee | $6,800 | I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Cole, and even though MIL hits righties well it’s without Braun and doesn’t have *that* great a lineup |
SP – Hisashi Iwakuma | vs. Chicago Cubs | $9,700 | Iwakuma at home: 1.46 ERA, 52 K, 3 BB. Cubs on road: .629 OPS |
C – Yadier Molina |
Bartolo Colon | $4,200 | Second most PPG among catchers, but only 10th priciest |
1B – Brandon Belt |
Jhoulys Chacin | $4,500 | Versus a righty at Coors is worth the risk |
2B – Matt Carpenter |
Colon | $4,400 | Thirteenth ranked 2B by price, fifth by scoring |
3B – Evan Longoria | Max Scherzer | $4,000 | Tough matchup, but only $4,000? Worth it |
SS – Jean Segura |
Cole | $4,100 | Costs less than Alexi Casilla, but he’s the third highest scoring shortstop |
OF – Carlos Beltran |
Colon | $4,500 | Thirteen of 18 homers vs. righties; .924 OPS vs. righties |
OF – Gerardo Parra |
Julio Teheran | $3,600 | Way too cheap; .906 OPS vs. righties |
OF – Austin Jackson |
Alex Colome | $4,000 | 1.077 OPS in June |
Thursday Recap
Derek Holland shutout the Yankees in New York, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out seven. Holland’s 3.14 season ERA is backed up by a 2.75 FIP and career-high strikeout and walk rates. I just traded Andrew McCutchen for Derek Holland and three other players in a 16-team league and feel like I got a good deal out of it. I’d be buying Holland in any league.
Matt Garza now has thrown 22 innings in his last three starts and only allowed two earned runs after Thursday’s 10-strikeout beating of the Brewers. He has a 23:5 K:BB in those three starts and has generally pitched better than what his ERA suggests. He’s owned in just 71 percent of ESPN leagues.
