2013 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: August 12th 2013
I’m going to switch it up this week because there is a great deal at DraftKings – the $100K Sweet Spot Qualifier. It’s just $2 and the winner takes home a $100K Sweet Spot Ticket valued at $100! Can’t beat that offer. And you can have up to five entries and the total entries for this qualifier are limited to 57. Don’t forget to claim your deposit bonus!
Rotoinfo.com provides excellent updates as lineups roll in.
DraftKings.com Team of the Day:
Julio Teheran | RHP | Braves | $9,000 – Teheran has been hot lately. Since June 1, he has a 2.31 ERA and has struck out 77 batters over 74 innings while only walking 17. He faces a a Phillies team that looks to be going through the motions. They are middle of the pack in wOBA versus righties. Somehow, he has yet to face Philadelphia this season. The only mark in the match up is the Phillies extremely low K% against right handed pitching(12.6%) as they are 25th out of 30 teams.
Danny Salazar | RHP | Indians | $8,900 – Salazar has very little track record at the major league level though 17 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings will make you take notice. He faces the Twins who are third worst in the league in K% versus righties at 22.9%.
If you are looking for other starting pitching I Wade Davis against the Marlins as Davis was solid prior to missing time for a death in his family. Mat Latos against the Cubs and Wade Miley against the Orioles are also other options I considered.
Yan Gomes | C | Indians | $3,700 – Gomes faces Andrew Albers in his second major league start. Gomes has been quite successful against left handed pitching this season (.976 OPS) and the pickings at catcher are somewhat slim. Brian McCann and Victor Martinez would also fit here and have great career records against their respective opposing starters. Devin Mesoraco is an option due to his success against lefties.
Adam Dunn | 1B| White Sox | $4,100 – Dunn has six hits in ten at bats against Doug Fister. August has been kind to Dunn as he has a .935 OPS in the month.
Gordon Beckham | 2B | White Sox | $4,000 – Beckham has four hits in 17 ABs against starter Doug Fister (with a home run). However, August has also been quite kind to Beckham as he has a .929 OPS in the month. Let’s ride the hot hand here.
Chris Johnson | 3B/1B | Braves | $4,100 – Johnson has been everything the Braves could have hoped for and more this season. He’s got a .924 OPS against lefthanders this season. He has an .829 OPS over his last ten games with two home runs.
Wilmer Flores | SS | Mets | $2,200 – Shortstop, eh? Ok, I’ll go with it. Flores for $2,200 is a steal. He hit fifth in the Mets lineup on Sunday and you can’t get that type of value many places. Other cheap options that I considered were Jose Iglesias and Cliff Pennington (if he starts) as he has solid numbers against O’s starter Scott Feldman (5-17 with a home run).
Will Venable | OF | Angels | $4,600 – Venable should be starting now that Carlos Quentin is back on the DL. Venable usually gets a spot at the top of the lineup. He ventures to Coors Field (where oddly he hasn’t been all that successful) riding a seven game hitting streak where his OPS has been 1.435. I’ll take the chance that he can put a couple of hits on the board on Monday.
Torii Hunter | OF | Tigers | $3,900 – Hunter has three home runs in his last 10 games and has an .843 OPS over that period. He has four hits in eight ABs with a home run against starter Chris Sale and a .978 OPS this year against left handed pitching.
Ryan Raburn | OF | Indians | $4,300 – Another stud against lefties for the Indians so he’s in the lineup as well. He’s got a 1.010 OPS against lefties in 90 plate appearances this season and .819 career number.
If you are looking to stack, I’d look at the Rockies against Edinson Volquez or the White Sox against Doug Fister or the Indians against Andrew Albers.
Good luck today!
