2014 Fantasy Golf Daily Fix: John Deere Classic
I’m on vacation this week, but the PGA Tour stops for no one…well, it actually stops each week and this week we venture to the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. Below you will find my DraftStreet daily fantasy picks for the tournament this week. Come on and join me for a round!
Tour Stop
The John Deere Classic is held at another of the PGA’s courses the TPC Deere Run. Exact directions to the course can be found here. If you aren’t near Silvis, IL this week, then you’ll likely catch the tour on TV or Al Gore’s Internet. The TPC Deer Run course is a 7,268 yard, par 71 course. The John Deere Classic has been held here since 2000 so we have a relatively long track record to go on.
This is an easy track with no winner finishing with a score worse than 16 under par since the tournament started here at TPC Deere Run. There really aren’t any hazards to speak of on the course so you want players who can get to the green and then putt for birdies all week long – Greens in Regulation (GIR) and putting will be key.
Field
It’s a thin field (even thinner than last week which was thinner than the prior week which was thinner than the week before that) with only 8 of the top 50 in the Overall World Golf Rankings in the field this year.
2013 Tournament Results
Below you’ll find the top 20 from the 2013 John Deere Classic:
Let’s look at a few options this week.
DraftStreet Expert Picks
David Hearn | $15,393 – Hearn lost in a playoff last year here to eventual winner Jordan Speith. He struggled last week, but prior to that ran off three solid tournaments.
J.J. Henry | $13,471– Henry has only missed one cut in his eight appearances here. He is fifth in GIR on tour this year, but he doesn’t have the results to show for his solid work getting to the putting surface. He’s in a friendly place this week, so we should see a result from him.
Billy Hurley III | $15,572 – Top notch form for Mr. Hurley as he’s got two top 10s in his last two times out.
Zach Johnson | $23,339 – Johnson won here in 2012 and has finished lower than third only once since 2009 – he was tied for 21 st in that “off” year of 2010.
Patrick Rodgers | $13,638 – Rodgers tied for 15 th last year at 14 under par and he’s made three straight cuts since turning pro.
Steve Stricker | $24,541– Stricker has won this tournament three times. Nuff said. Well, maybe not quite enough – you should have either he or Zach Johnson in your lineup no matter what else you choose. The salaries drop off a cliff after those two so you can roster a solid squad even with the slight overpay for one of those two studs.
Daniel Summerhays | $15,191 – Summerhays broke our hearts last week by missing the cut, but he’d been quite solid up until last week. He tied for fourth (one stroke back) here last year with a final round 72.
Michael Thompson | $14,420 – Thompson is an excellent putter (11 th in strokes gained – putting). He’s only played here once, but finished in a tie for the 12 th spot back in 2011.
Check out my lineup as it sits right now.
Good luck this week! Head over to DraftStreet to choose your squad for this week.
