We are coming off of another good week in DFS golf as I had three of the top six finishers in my column last week. Hopefully, my streak continues this week in this edition of The Fantasy Fix’s Daily Fantasy golf column. We head to Paramus, New Jersey for The Barclays And DraftKings is back with some top notch contests. Come on over and take a look.

Tour Stop

This week the PGA kicks of the FedEx playoffs. The pros head to Ridgewood Country Club in idyllic Paramus, NJ for The Barclays. The tournament is held on the Championship Course which is a combination of the toughest 18 holes of the 27 at the club. The course is a par-71 that covers 7,319 yards. When looking at the scorecard, you can see this course as the first 18 under the Black course heading and the par 71 that is the second line of the Black Course.

The Barclays was last held at Ridgewood in 2010 and prior to that 2008 so course history may not be quite as useful this week though many of the players from 2010 are still on tour today.

The course has only three par 5s (as did last week’s stop) so scoring on par 4s will be key as it was last week. Also, this course is about 200 yards longer than last week so some of the shorter hitters may struggle a bit here.  With little history to go on, I will focus a bit more on current form than I would in the past.

Field

As this is the first round of the playoffs, we have 122 of the top 125 in FedEx points this week. Only Dustin Johnson (still dealing with personal issues), Steve Stricker (has a torn hip labrum) and Jason Dufner (neck injury) aren’t here.

Past Tournament Results

Below you’ll find the results from 2010 and 2008 (the last two times the tournament was held at Ridgewood CC) as well as the 2013 results when the tournament was held at Liberty National Golf Club – a 7,353 yard par 71 track.

Let’s look at a few options this week. You’ll see a couple more choices than normal as there are a lot of ways to go this week.

Paul Casey | $8,000 – Casey has played Ridgewood twice and he’s been in the top 15 each time. He finished in a tie for 18 th last week at the Wyndham with all four rounds under 70.

Tim Clark | $6,600 – Since back to back missed cuts in late June/early July, Clark has gone tied for fifth, WIN, tied for 50 th, CUT (at the PGA) and tied for 24 th.  He’s a sneaky-solid play who fits nicely with other higher priced options.

Jason Day | $9,700 – Uber-talented, never-healthy golfer who seems to be healthy at the moment. Tied for fifth here in 2010 and tied for fifteenth last week. He’ll probably be avoided by many, but is a great play in deeper pools.

Rickie Fowler | $10,100 – If you want to take a step down from the upper crust, Fowler might be your best bet. His season has been geared toward the majors and he finished in the top 5 in each. Now, he’s got a big payday out there to chase so we’ll see if that prep works here too. In his last four tournaments his lowest finish was eighth.

Brice Garnett | $4,900 – Garnett has made 19 of 26 cuts this year and is one of the more consistent players on tour. If you want to go with top shelf talent, you’ll need to pick up a cheaper player or two. Garnett is the man for you – he’s won’t win, but he should be safe to make the cut.

Hunter Mahan | $8,900 – Mahan has back to back top 15 finishes. He’s also never missed the TOUR Championship since the FedEx playoff format was adopted in 2009. He seems to get hot at this time of year, so ride him again this week.

Rory McIlroy | $12,200 – He’s won his last three tournaments. Read that again. He’s won his last three tournaments. Sure, he’s the most expensive player on the board, but he’s worth it. He’s averaged just over 131 points over those three wins. You’ll need some cheap guys on the back end to make this work, but he’s playing out of his mind right now.

Louis Oosthuizen – $7,900 – Is he back? It sure looks like it after his solid finish at the PGA as he was hitting fairways and greens with regularity. He’s a nice mid-range play who probably isn’t getting a lot of looks.

Brandt Snedeker | $9,600 – Snedeker has been perhaps the hottest golfer on the planet. Since June 12 he’s made every cut and he’s only finished outside of the top 25 once. That Butch Harmon is a wizard.

Robert Streb – | $5,300 – Streb scored 83 points last week and finished in a tie for 18 th. And his salary dropped by $300. He’s still top 10 in par 4 scoring so he’s set up for success again this week.

Kevin Streelman | $7,700 – This is all about past performance as he tied for third in 2010 and fourth in 2008 when this tourney was held at Ridgewood. He is not in form at the moment, but if he likes this course, form can turn in an instant.

Camillo Villegas | $7,900 – This is all about current form as Villegas won last week and looked good doing it. He’s gotten hot in the playoffs before so perhaps we can catch lightning in a bottle again.

Nick Watney | $8,500 – Current form is why Watney is here as he has three straight strong showings with his lowest finish a tie for 33 rd at the PGA.

Lee Westwood | $8,500 – Back to back top 20s for Westwood seems to have put ole Lee back on track. He’s a horse for this course and should find his way into most lineups this week with his salary.

Check out my lineup as it sits right now. I may chicken out and switch Day out for a player who isn’t always hurt (like Watney or Streelman).

Scoring Notes: Ties for a finishing position will not reduce or average down points. For example, the golfer who wins the tournament will receive the sole award of 1st place points, but will not accrue points for their scoring result in the individual playoff holes.
