2014 Fantasy Golf Daily Fix: Valspar Championship
Welcome back to TheFantasyFix.com’s Daily Fantasy golf picks. We are back for yet another week of play. This week’s Daily Fantasy picks for the Valspar Championship PGA tournament are below.
Tour Stop
Another tour stop, another week in sunny Florida as this week we head to Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Florida to play the Copperhead Course to chase the Valspar Championship. It’s Florida again, so Bermuda grass is on the greens of this 7,340 par 71 course. The course is a bit different than other Florida courses as it is a bit tougher in its layout and players that will succeed here will be able to stay out of trouble off the tee and be able to make shots all the way to the green. The course also swings near the Gulf of Mexico giving it a bit more of an ocean feel than other Florida courses.
As with the past two weeks, we had a change to this tournament in 2007. However, the change was time of year – this tournament used to be played in the fall, but was moved to the spring in 2007. The effect isn’t as great as switching courses, but weather does affect players to some degree.
We have 15 of the top 50 in the World Golf Rankings here this week so not as star studded as last week’s guaranteed payday, but still some great choices for our squad.

Players
Steve Marino withdrew with an unknown injury and should be off your list. Brandon de Jonge is still struggling with a rib issue and he says he’s going to play through it. Tommy Gainey left his last tour stop with an elbow injury but is back this week. D.H. Lee and Brian Gay also return from injury this week and should likely be avoided as well.
Here is the top 10 from 2013’s tournament at Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course:
Let’s look at a few options this week:
Jonathan Byrd has a solid track record on this course with a top 20 in 2011 and an eighth in 2010. He has struggled a bit recently on the course, but did perform well last week in Puerto Rico and wouldn’t likely break the bank with his salary.
Ken Duke – Duke a type of player that never does anything great except make cuts. He’s seven for nine this year in making cuts. He finished fifth here in 2012 with all four rounds under 70.
Luke Donald – Played well last week and heads to Innisbrook where he’s played three times, made the cut three times and been in the top 10 three times (including a win). He’s a must own in all formats this week.
Russell Knox – European players don’t get as much play in these leagues as they usually aren’t faull time PGA tour players. Knox came into your living room two weeks ago as he battled in a playoff (that he ultimately lost). Knox overall game is in great shape and could have a solid week.
Matt Kuchar – Kuchar’s record at the course isn’t too dissimilar to Donald and he’s been playing well. If you prefer Kuchar to Donald I wouldn’t argue him as your team anchor this week.
George McNeill – McNeill has three top 20s in his last three starts on tour. He’s made the cut here in three of his five appearances and is in great form.
Jordan Speith – Speith is the third team anchor I’d recommend this week. The youngster has been great on tour and this course is where he finally qualified for a special exemption to play regularly on tour. He should be money in the bank this week.
Daniel Summerhays – Summerhays has four top ten finishes in on this short season and has been playing well early on. He finished 63rd and missed the cut in his two outings at Innisbrook so this is more about current form than prior success.
If you want to go cheap for any reason, there could be some value in Steven Bowditch who has made six of ten cuts this year or Michael Putnam who is eight for ten this year.
Good luck this week!
