We are back this week for another look at Daily Fantasy PGA at DraftKings. It was another mediocre weekend, but you can’t win them all. The DFS game is a grind and you have to get out there each day to succeed. Let’s see if I can help you out this week.

We stay in California again this week (and who is complaining especially if you are currently snowed in) for the Northern Trust Open just outside of Los Angeles. We get back to the normal Friday night cut and no more pro-am tournaments.

It’s a great week to check out DraftKings as they have some top notch contests. Come on over and take a look.

Tour Stop

It’s just one course this week, but it’s a dandy as we move to Los Angeles and Riviera Country Club, for the Northern Trust Open. The Open has been held since 1929 (when it was the Los Angeles Open) and has been at Riviera since 1999. This 7,349 yard, par 71 course offers challenges of all shapes and sizes as the greens are small and the rough is punitive. There is even a hole with a bunker in the middle of it!

You are going to want to focus on players who can keep the ball in play and if they can’t, can scramble their way out of the Kikuya rough that runs along the course. Also, experience (overall in the game) is key when you look at a winners’ list full of Master’s champions and other major winners.

Field

We will have only nine of the top 25 world rankings at Riviera – another pretty weak field. But, we’ve got Sergio Garcia’s 2015 U.S debut along with another top 20 Euro in Victor Dubuisson. Dubuisson has withdrawn. Also, we get to see one of the hotter golfers in the world in Bernd Wiesberger.

The full field can be found here.

Also, thanks to GolfOdds.com for the odds this week. If you’d like to see a second set of odds, check out the Betting Zone’s odds here – just click on this week’s tournament on the left hand pane.

Past Tournament Results

2014 Winner: Bubba Watson blitzed the course over the weekend playing his last two rounds in 14-under par to claim the victory by two strokes over Dustin Johnson. He is back to defend his title this week and Johnson is here as well off his top five performance a week ago.

Here is the top 20 from last year’s tournament

DraftKings Expert Picks

Robert Allenby | $3,700 – Allenby has had a busy early season after losing about two hours of his life to some mysterious amnesia-esque disease. He hasn’t made a cut since Oct 2014 at the CIMB Classic. He tied for 29th here last year and has five to 10 finishes in his 16 starts at the Northern. He is the longest of long shots, but does have a great course history.

Sang-Moon Bae | $7,400 – Military, schmilitary. Bae hasn’t seemed to have been bothered by the legal battle being fought in his name in South Korea. Bae had back to back 69s in his last time out at the Farmers, but faltered on Sunday with a 75 to finish in a tie for 32nd. Bae has played here twice and has been in the top 15 both times so the course suits him.

Charlie Beljan | $7,200 – Beljan is coming off a solo third finish last week that including a blistering 63 on Friday. He’s got an excellent track record here in his two starts with his worst finish being a tie for 11th last year.

Keegan Bradley | $8,600 – Bradley has three straight top 20 finishes at the Northern Trust Open over the last three years. He’s made the cut in all four of his starts this season, but has only one top 20 so far this year. His spot on the list is mostly about his history on this course.

K.J. Choi | $6,500 – Makes cuts, that’s what he does and that’s what he’s done so far in 2015. He hasn’t been great on DraftKings with his highest point total being 74 at the Phoenix Open. However, he’s a safe play who should be there on the weekend.

Fred Couples | $5,200 – It seems that Couples has played here every year the tournament has been held. He hasn’t, but he’s been here a lot. He’s got 14 top 10s with his last two coming in 2009 and 2011. He missed the cut last year, so he’s a clear desperation play, but Freddie can put together some magic for short stretches.

Jim Furyk | $9,800 – I faded Furyk last week and got burned. He looked healthy and back in form (including his standard fade with a 54-hole lead). He’s been in the top 25 the last two years and three of the last four here so he should be a solid choice.

Fabian Gomez | $4,100 – Gomez has quietly made six of seven cuts this season. He’s making his debut at Riveria, but his current form allows me to take him at this price

Bill Haas | $9,500 – Haas has excellent recent results here with four straight made cuts, a win and another top five finish in that span. The wrist injury still concerns me, but it’s hard to ignore his history and he bounced back with a tie for 19th at the Farmers after struggling in Phoenix.

Brian Harman | $6,900 – Harman finished in a tie for third at Riviera last year and has put up some big performances this year at the Hyundai and Sony.

J. B. Holmes | $8,800 – Holmes is on fire right now and he’s hard to ignore both with his form and course history. He’s got four top 10s in his eight appearances here though he’s struggled recently missing the cut in 2013 and stumbling to a tie for 52nd last year. However, he backed up his playoff loss at the Farmers with a tie for 10th place last week.

Dustin Johnson | $13,700 – Boy, DJ looked great last week playing with his future father in law. The question becomes is he back in form or was this a one week anomaly because he go to play with Wayne Gretzky? I’m gone with the former – he’s back in form. He’s got four top 10s in his seven trips here though he’s gone tie for third, CUT, tie for fourth, CUT, solo second over his last five appearances. Does that mean his going to miss the cut this week? Not in this author’s opinion.

George McNeill | $6,000 – McNeill is six for seven in cuts made here and finished tied for sixth last year. He’s made three straight cuts (though no finish better than a tie for 30th at the Humana in 2015.

Bryce Molder | $5,700 – Molder is coming off a solid performance last week (tied for 34th) at Pebble Beach with three sub-70 rounds. He’s got three straight top 25 finishes including a tie for sixth last year.

Charl Schwartzel | $9,300 – I love me some Charl – he’s one of my favorite players. I think it’s the name, though his game is quite something to behold. He’s played here twice (the last two years) and has two top five finishes. He’s going to be owned everywhere and should be.

Vijay Singh | $4,500 – The Former Flyin’ Fijian come through last week with a solid tie for 34 th. He’s no longer the mad bomber he once was, but he’s made 11 of 13 cuts here including four straight and a top 10 back in 2011.

Brandt Snedeker | $10,500 – There was some speculation that he wouldn’t show for this tourney after his win last week (and automatic qualification for the Masters). He’s here and blazing the greens with his flat stick. The call here is about form as Snedker has a pretty spotty record at Riviera with only two cuts made in five trips though both of those resulted in top 20 finishes.

Cameron Tringale| $6,100 – Tringale has alternated making cuts with missing cuts so far this season. If you believe in patterns, he’s going to miss the cut this week. However, his performance here can’t be ignored as he’s played here four times and finished in the top 25 each year with a career best tie for 12th last year.

Jimmy Walker | $12,700 – Walker has been on fire this year as confirmed by his FedEx Cup points lead. Walker has two top 10s here in eight appearances (seven made cuts), but he’s been extremely good recently with his lowest finish in the last four years being last year’s tie for 20th.

Bernd Wiesberger | $7,800 – Wiesberger has played four times in 2015. His record in those four starts is – tie for sixth, solo third, tie for fourth, solo second. Outside of Jason Day, he’s the hottest golfer in the world. Plus he’s a great follow on Twitter. This is his first time on the courses, but his form trumps any concerns.

Good luck this week! Head over to DraftKings to choose your squad for this week.

Scoring Notes: Ties for a finishing position will not reduce or average down points. For example, if 2 golfers tie for 3rd place, each will receive the 18 fantasy points for the 3rd place finish result. Playoff Holes will not count towards final scoring, with the exception of the “finishing position” scoring. For example, the golfer who wins the tournament will receive the sole award of 1st place points, but will not accrue points for their scoring result in the individual playoff holes.

Player Lock Notes: All golfers lock at the time the first golfer tees off on day 1 of an event.
