Daily Fantasy Baseball Fix

Today I will be playing the Daily Dollar (great for beginners) If you are new to @DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball, you can claim your Deposit Bonus here!

Before I get into my @DraftKings team of the day, here are some weather notes for tomorrow’s games. –Note rain percentages aren’t definitive and are best used as a reminder to check the weather status again on game-day before selecting a player from that game.

SEA @ CIN: 40% Scattered Thunderstorms: This game is highly unlikely to be postponed (unless there’s an emergency double-header for tomorrow), but I’d stay away from this games’ pitchers: Mat Latos and Jeremy Bonderman

DET @ CLE: 40% Scattered Thunderstorms: These two teams meet again in a four game series in Cleveland from Monday August 5th to Thursday August 8th. If it had been a three game series however, I would typically say there is an easy make-up day and the game would likely be postponed if the rain comes. Go ahead and start any hitters you wish from this game, but as always tread carefully on the pitching side. The pitchers in this game are Carlos Carrasco and Anibal Sanchez.

My strategy for my team today will be to pick elite pitching and to try and pick guys with good platoon splits and who have been hot recently.

Pitcher: Jordan Zimmermann | $9,600: Zimmermann has been absolutely outstanding this season and today he gets to face the San Diego Padres. The Padres are throwing out Jason Marquis; in a related story, Jordan Zimmermann has already been credited with a win.

Pitcher: R.A. Dickey | $8,900: Don’t look now, but Dickey has a 3.27 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP in his last three starts, this including a six earned run clunker against the Orioles. When Dickey is good, he’s amazing. When he’s bad, he’s abysmal. Going up against the Twins, with the opposing starter being Mike Pelfrey, Dickey is a great bet this week.

Catcher Alex Avila $3,300 @ CLE
First Base Eric Hosmer $4,000 vs. OAK
Second Base Kyle Seager $4,900 @ CIN
Third Base Manny Machado $4,500 @ NYY
Shortstop Brad Miller $2,500 @ CIN
Outfield Michael Bourn $3,700 vs. DET
Outfield Colby Rasmus $4,500 vs. MIN
Outfield Torii Hunter $4,100 @ CLE

News and Notes from around the MLB:

The New York Yankees have reported that Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez are both playing in rehab games. Both are uninteresting in mixed leagues.

According to Mark Zuckerman of CSNWashington, Nationals manager Davey Johnson has said that Bryce Harper will be sat for the remainder of the San Diego series. Johnson cites a needed “mental and physical break” for Harper.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp left Friday’s game after apparently injuring his shoulder during in a swing in his first at-bat of the game according to Bill Plunkett of the Oragne County Register. The injury doesn’t sound manager, but according to the Dodgers official Twitter feed, it’s the AC joint in his left shoulder that was irritating him.

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson was phenomenal on Friday, allowing just six hits in seven innings. He only allowed one earned run while striking out nine and walking none in an 8-3 win over the White Sox. Hellickson has a 3.23 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP with 23 strikeouts in 30.2 innings pitched this past month with a better than 3:1 K:BB ratio.

Boston Red Sox catcher Mike Napoli hit a solo home run Friday in a 6-2 win over the Angels. It was Napoli’s first home run since June 1st.

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera went 0-5 with a run scored in his return to the lineup after being scratched Thursday with a back injury.

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard homered for the first time in July last night after an excellent month of June where he hits .284/.371/.511 this coming after an anemic May where he hit .222/.278/.411.

Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes continues to stink, and was dropped to sixth in the order on Friday. He went 1-4. In other A’s news, closer Grant Balfour converted his 40th consecutive save, (his 21st of the season) which ties him for most consecutive saves in Athletics history with Dennis Eckersley.
