Who wants to win $125,000?
Opportunities don’t come along like this very often. Those of you that know me know I play the Double Up! contest habitually, but Draftkings has made an offer I can’t refuse and you shouldn’t either. Draftkings is presenting a one time contest where the winner is set to earn $125,000. Yup, you read that right. Just take an opportunity to let that soak in for a second.
For most of us that amounts to two full years of salary where we work. You can get that for one’s day’s work. This is the last such contest that Draftkings is offering for the baseball season, so get in now while the getting is good. Draftkings will pay out to the top 600 place holders for this one in a lifetime opportunity.
If you are new to Draftkings, I can’t think of a better reason to get going. They will give you a deposit bonus you can access here. Once you’ve signed up you just follow the links to the sport you want to play (baseball is the only option now) and the contests you want to play. Of course, we will give you the direct hook up here. If you are just joining us for the Draftkings revolution the rules of the game are simple enough. You pick one player per position and two pitchers. You have 50,000 to spend and you get points based on their performance during that day’s game. It’s as easy as that.
I will give you a head start by sharing my lineup with you. I will always share two lineups with you each time I write up these contests. My normal days are Wednesday and Thursday, but the all-star break gave me a brief respite. We have other talented and knowledgable writers that contribute on other days of the week, so you can always come back here to get advice on who to play. My second lineup is simply an alternative choice you can play at each position. The first lineup will meet the 50,000 cap. The second one won’t necessarily do that. Here’s to 600 of us getting some money tonight.
My Lineup
Player | Opposing SP | Salary | Notes
C | Brian McCann | John Danks | 4,200 | He managed to make it to the all-star game even with missing the first month. |
1B | Brandon Belt | Ian Kennedy | 3,700 | The magic from 2011 is a distant memory for Kennedy. |
2B | Marco Scutaro | Ian Kennedy | 3,700 | A cheaper option and Kennedy is a guy I want to exploit. |
3B | Jose Iglesias | Andy Pettitte | 3,500 | Iglesias is cheap and Pettitte has been very hittable this season. |
SS | Andrelton Simmons | John Danks | 4,100 | He isn’t terrific, but he’s solid and Danks is not. |
OF | Jacoby Ellsbury | Andy Pettitte | 5,000 | He has been one of the best outfielders in baseball since a lukewarm April. |
OF | Shane Victorino | Andy Pettitte | 4,700 | Victorino has missed some time, but he’s been productive when healthy. |
OF | Michael Brantley | Mike Pelfrey | 4,600 | He is one of the most underrated power/speed threats in the game. |
P | Francisco Liriano | Cincinnati Reds | 9,100 | Imagine calling Liriano the ace of the Pirates staff at the beginning of the season. |
P | Mike Leake | Pittsburgh Pirates | 7,200 | This is the ultimate hedging of the bet as one of these two is destined to win. |
A Reasonable Alternative
Player | Opposing SP | Salary | Notes
C | Carlos Santana | Mike Pelfrey | 4,400 | Quietly remains as one of the top five catchers in baseball; offensively at least. |
1B | Mike Napoli | Andy Pettitte | 4,400 | He is also eligible at catcher if you don’t like the options there. |
2B | Jason Kipnis | Mike Pelfrey | 4,900 | He continues to put up tantalizing power and speed numbers. |
3B | Pablo Sandoval | Ian Kennedy | 4,300 | He hasn’t done what people hoped, but some day he will bust out. |
SS | Asdrubal Cabrera | Mike Pelfrey | 4,600 | He flies under the radar since he missed some considerable time. |
OF | Michael Bourn | Mike Pelfrey | 4,500 | He missed a lot of time, so he will be overlooked. |
OF | Hunter Pence | Ian Kennedy | 4,300 | He has some good numbers and he can smell free agency. |
OF | Justin Upton | John Danks | 5,900 | Way too pricey for my blood, but it is a favorable pitching matchup. |
P | Anibal Sanchez | Kansas City Royals | 9,600 | This is my third favorite matchup as the Royals are bad offensively. |
P | Wei Yen Chen | Texas Rangers | 8,000 | I don’t like the matchup, but he has been very productive this season. |
