Daily Fantasy Baseball Fix

Thursday is sometimes a difficult day to play on. It’s quite common for Draftkings to split their contests into early, normal, and late game contests. When you have only nine games on the schedule to begin with, it can be really challenging to put a schedule together using the daily matchups method. In this case, there was only one (possibly two) pitcher that we could really take advantage of. I really don’t feel like starting the entire Chicago Cubs lineup just to hold to the strategy I’ve been playing all season.

So, like yesterday, we will look players that have been performing well over the past month and use that information to piece together a good lineup. It seemed to work well yesterday, so maybe it will work again today. Next time, we will get back to the business of looking at daily matchups.

Today, I’m playing in a Double Up! contest. They range anywhere from a dollar to ten dollars, but each works the same way. If you finish in the top half you get almost twice as much as you put in. Naturally, DraftKings gets their cut because they have to pay their employees, the light bill, and make a little for their trouble. That being said, they are very generous to those that start playing as they will give you a deposit bonus you can access here.

Just a gentle reminder, that the first list is the lineup I will actually be playing today. The second is a list of reasonable alternatives at each position. The salaries will not add up to 50,000 like normal. It likely would be closer to 55,000, so you will have to mix and match accordingly.

Catcher

A.J. Ellis

Jonathan Pettibone

3,300

I still have never understood why he is this cheap.
First Base

Chris Davis

Corey Kluber

6,200

It’s a bundle, but he appears to be having one of those once in a lifetime seasons.
Second Base

Jason Kipnis

Miguel Gonzalez

5,700

He is quietly lifted his average over .280 with double digit homers and steals.
Third Base

Michael Young

Zack Greinke

3,600

Not a great matchup, but you have to save somewhere.
Shortstop

Jose Iglesias

Chien Ming Wang

3,900

It probably won’t last, but until it stops we have to continue.
Outfield

Jose Bautista

Jon Lester

5,900

He hasn’t been the Joey Bats of the past three years but he is still very good.
Outfield

Nate McLouth

Corey Kluber

4,100

The AL leader in stolen bases also has been hitting for power.
Outfield

Domonic Brown

Zack Greinke

4,200

He already has 20 home runs. Who would have thought that at the beginning?
Pitcher

Chien Ming Wang

Boston Red Sox

5,000

He is dirt cheap and he has been solid since his call up.
Pitcher

Jeremy Guthrie

Minnesota Twins

7,800

He’s hittable, but he has been solid for most of the season.

Catcher

Salvador Perez

The Minnesota Twins have the least strikeouts in baseball by a wide margin.
First Base

Adam Lind

Jon Lester

He has been one of the biggest success stories in baseball this season
Second Base

Dustin Pedroia

Chien Ming Wang

5,900

He is still one of the best second basemen in the game.
Third Base

Manny Machado

Corey Kluber

4,900

He isn’t on the torrid pace he was on, but he is still highly productive.
Shortstop

J.J. Hardy

Corey Kluber

4,200

He has quietly elevated himself into the top five among fantasy shortstops.
Outfield

Michael Brantley

Miguel Gonzalez

4,900

Who would have guessed he would have been the best Indians outfielder.
Outfield

Lorenzo Cain

TBD

4,700

Just like his teammate, he should take advantage of the most hittable staff in baseball.
Outfield

Yasiel Puig

Jonathan Pettibone

5,200

Like Iglesias, you should consider playing him until he cools off.
Pitcher

Zack Greinke

Philadelphia Phillies

10,100

He has been good in his last few outings, so he is a solid play on a short schedule.
Pitcher

Miguel Gonzalez

Cleveland Indians

7,300

It’s a short day and there are few quality options at your disposal.
