2013 Fantasy Baseball, The Daily Fix: September 19th, 2013
Today, I’m playing in a Double Up! contest again. They range anywhere from a dollar to over 100 dollars, but each works the same way. If you finish in the top half you get almost twice as much as you put in. Naturally, DraftKings gets their cut because they have to pay their employees, the light bill, and make a little for their trouble. That being said, they are very generous to those that start playing as they will give you a deposit bonus you can access here.
My Lineup
Catcher: Matt Wieters
Wieters has been pretty good lately and in the last two weeks you want to pick guys on teams trying to make a playoff push. The alternative are teams that are beginning to sit their regulars.
First Base: Adam Laroche
The Nationals are on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs, but they still have an outside chance if they continue winning. Laroche is usually a strong September player and this year has been no different.
Second Base: Jose Altuve
I kept waiting for the price to drop on him because he has been hotter than a pistol, but he’s still not an elite player. He could get his average north of .290 before it is all said and done.
Third Base: Ryan Zimmerman
Just like his teammate, he is helping the Nationals make a late season push for the playoffs. It says here that they will come up short, but finishing stong will leave a good taste in his mouth and everyone else’s.
Shortstop: Jose Reyes
It is a nice debate between Reyes and Tuulowitzki for the top shortstop on the board when healthy. Of course, with both guys those are some huge ifs. Reyes is healthy now.
Outfield: Nick Swisher
You have two factors working in your favor. First, the Indians are in the throws of a wild card chase. Secondly, the Indians are going up against the Astros this weekend.
Outfeld: Adam Jones
The Orioles are in the midst of a playoff race and Jones is one of the keys to their success. He has driven in more than 100 runs and been his normal self in Chris Davis’ shadow.
Outfield: Coco Crisp
He has beeen on fire as the Athletics are poised for win a second consecutive divisional championship. In the second half, he has become as dynamic a power/speed combination as there is in the game.
Pitcher: Matt Moore
The Rangers are in free fall and part of that is an offense that has disappeared. Meanwhile, the Rays are one of those teams fighting for a late season playoff berth.
Pitcher: Dan Straily
The Twins are anemic and playing out the string. The Athletics want to make sure they sew up the division in time to get their playoff rotation set.
