Ah, it’s Tuesday which means we’ve got lots of options today!  Let’s take a look at today’s slate, and see where we can exploit the matchups. You can find me on twitter @RyNoonan if you have player specific questions.

If you haven’t jumped into the daily action yet now is the time! It’s not too late and we here at The Fantasy Fix have a great deal that’ll help you get started. What are you waiting for? DraftKings has a MLB Medium Midsummer Classic today with $100,000 prize pool and the top 1,125 finishers win cash! Go ahead, click that link.

Game times and Weather

Every team is in action on Tuesday, and it’s a full slate of night games. We get started with the 7:05 pm EST games on the east coast. Weather might be an issue in the Midwest though. It’s rare that both the White Sox and Cubs are playing simultaneous night games, and they’re both facing threats of thunderstorms so watch that situation carefully.

Positional Breakdown

Starting Pitchers

I love when we get days like. Days when my favorite pitching matchup is one of the cheapest on the board. Jacob deGrom is my top pitcher pick of the day, on the road against the Mariners. The young righty is well rested after an extended break, and faces a light hitting Mariners offense in a very pitcher friendly environment, Safeco Field. Yesterday I suggested Adam Wainwright owners might want to consider selling the aces, but I’m not afraid to buy him today in his matchup against the Rays. Stay away from Homer Bailey today, you’ll thank me later. I’m also reluctant to trust Josh Beckett on the road in Pittsburgh despite it looking like a decent matchup for him on paper.

Catcher

The Brewers have seen a lot of Homer Bailey over the years, and they like what they’ve seen. I expect a strong offensive showing from the Brew Crew, and Jonathan Lucroy has been a key cog for this team all season long. Start him with confidence today.

First Baseman

Rarely do I take this approach at first base, but let’s make it the last position that we fill today. The matchup advantages at other positions are much stronger today, so we’ll fill them first and then circle back and check our remaining funds for our first baseman today. Freddie Freeman looks like a nice play but will cost you, and while I don’t like his team’s chances today, James Loney will cost you next to nothing and owns a .462 career average against Wainwright in his career.

Second Baseman

We’ve got options today at second. If you’re a set it and forget it player, than Jose Altuve is your guy. The league leader in hits is likely to add to his total today, he likes facing Scott Kazmir. My advice though is to wait and see who gets the start in Milwaukee. Teammates Rickie Weeks and Scooter Gennett have both smoked Homer Bailey consistently in the past, and Ned Yost’s choice at second today will be my choice as well.

Third Baseman

If you wanted to continue the aggressive onslaught of Brewers, you could do worse than Aramis Ramirez, but I like Josh Donaldson to have a nice day and he’s my first choice. He’s facing Astros’ lefty Brett Oberholtzer, and I think Donaldson takes him deep today.

Shortstop

Coors Field? Check. Facing a lefty? Check. Coming off of a 5-5 night at the dish? Check. Ian Desmond is our guy at shortstop today. Some times less is more.

Outfield

Not to be confused with every other day, but I like Giancarlo Stanton’s chances for a dong today. He’s taken Braves starter Mike Minor deep four times before, and I like for him to build on that. Watch the weather here though, as rain could become an issue. Orioles All-Star Adam Jones is in ‘see ball kill ball’ mode right now, and left-hander Hector Santiago is likely to serve Sleepy Jones some more BP tonight. The other must-start in the outfield is our last Brewer, Khris Davis. He gets the edge over Ryan Braun due to his slightly advantage against Bailey, and his cost savings. Braun is a easy fill-in for Stanton is the rain becomes an issue in Atlanta. If you’ve splurged elsewhere and are tight on funds, I like Dayan Viciedo as a cheap power option today as well.
