2014 Fantasy Baseball: The Daily Fix – July 9th, 2014

Welcome back to another edition of the daily fix. As we approach the all-star break we come to realize that most of the players are who they are at this point. Sometimes you have some matchups that you are just dying to take advantage of. Yu Darvish has had seven starts against the Houston Astros in three seasons. In seven starts, he has hurled 51 innings (more than seven innings a start) with a 72/15 strikeout to walk ratio.

What is more mind-blowing is that he has allowed only 23 hits in the same time span. It is a miracle that his ERA is even as high as 2.29 against the Astros. Furthermore, the Astros have been striking out a ton lately. This seems like the perfect opportunity to get him in. The problem is that he is the most expensive player on the board. So, the primary strategy is to save enough money to fit Darvish in.

SP

Yu Darvish

25638

Houston Astros

Look at the numbers above. It is hard to dominate a team like he has here.

SP

Yordano Ventura

Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays are a bad offensive team and he is a good young pitcher.

SP

Wei-Yin Chen

11188

Washington Nationals

It’s a shaky matchup, but we had to get in under 12,000.

As we always do, we offer reasonable alternatives at every position. Sometimes, players take days off and sometimes it rains. One time this year, I started a guy that had been sent down to the minors. These things happen. Draftstreet allows you to change your lineups almost up to game time, so here are some alternatives at each position in case the unexpected happens.
