Fantasy Baseball Final: September 19, 2015
Pitching dominated around the league on Saturday, as there were 17 recorded quality starts among starting pitchers.
Cole Hamels lead the way with 12 strikeouts in a 10-1 win for the Rangers over the Mariners.
Patrick Corbin has shown signs of getting back into his All-star self of late, as he has now five quality starts in a row, going 3-1 in that span after seven shutout innings on Saturday against the Giants.
Ryan Weber has only made three starts since being recalled from AAA, with his most recent one being the best one yet. Weber only allowed two hits, one run and struck out five over seven innings for the Braves on Saturday, but took the no decision. Of course, the Braves weren’t able to muster enough offense to help out their starting pitcher. Just ask Shelby Miller about that.
If You Only Read One Thing…
Clayton Kershaw allowed three runs to the Pirates on Saturday and lost his first game since June 27th against the Marlins. Kershaw has been his normal self since the all-star break with an ERA under 1.00, but had a rare night of decency instead of his masterful second half self. Kershaw is still in the running for the 2015 Cy Young award with his masterful second half.
Just As We Expected…
Bryce Harper hit another home run on Saturday for the Nationals, going 1/3 with his 41st home run of the year. Harper now is hitting .340 on the season with 41 home runs and 95 runs batted in, while leading the league with a .340/.467/.670 slash line. The likely NL MVP has had an incredible season, especially considering that he is just 22 years old. Look out.
But We Didn’t See This Coming…
Jackie Bradley Jr. had been ice cold at the plate for the Red Sox of late, going one for his last 30 at the plate, striking out 17 times in that span. Bradley Jr. went 2/4 with a home run and three RBI on Saturday against the Blue Jays. A trip to the Rogers Centre is just what the doctor ordered for any struggling hitter, and Bradley Jr. took advantage.
Save Chances…
Huston Street recorded two saves for the Angels on Saturday, doing so in only 1.1 innings pitched over a two-game double header. Jonathan Papelbon, David Robertson, Mark Melancon, Pedro Strop, Aroldis Chapman, Zach Britton, Arodys Vizcaino, and Robbie Ross Jr. all picked up saves for their respective teams on Saturday.
