Daily News for November 19th

Bradley Beal returns for the Washington Wizards. He will come off the bench. This renders Rasual Butler, whom while usually useless in fantasy, has actually been receiving more minutes and was creeping onto the punt play radar. Alas, that brief window is gone so fast we hardly knew ye’ Rasual.

P.J. Hairston is out today for the Charlotte Hornets, making Gerald Henderson the only healthy wing options besides Gary Neal and Lance Stephenson.

Point Guard

Tony Wroten ( $5,700 ) – The assumption is that the return of Michael Carter-Williams is going to negatively impact Wroten’s fantasy value.  While Wroten won’t see Kobe Bryant levels of usage while he’s sharing the back court with MCW, he’s still seeing a rate of 26.5.  That’s still very high, and given Wroten’s reduced price due to foul trouble in Dallas and a difficult matchup in San Antonio, he’s a great player to target tonight.  Boston is tied for third in pace, and is ranked #28 in defensive efficiency, while the Sixers lead the league in pace.  This game will be very high scoring, and should remain close, which should mean big things for Wroten.

Rajon Rondo ( $8,800 ) – Rondo’s price is steep, but there is plenty of value available tonight that rostering him should not present much of an issue.  For the same reasons Wroten is a great play, Rondo is a great play as well.  The pace and utter lack of defense in this game suits Rondo perfectly.  The more possessions and shots that are taken, the more opportunities he has to stuff the stat sheet and push for a triple-double, which is very attainable tonight.

GPP Plays: Ty Lawson ( $7,900 ), Brandon Jennings ( $7,300 ), John Wall ( $9,500 ), 

Shooting Guard

Iman Shumpert ( $3,900 ) – Shumpert is one of those guys you just have to roster tonight and not think twice about.  He’s ridiculously cheap, coming off a huge game, and has been consistently posting scores of 25 or more fantasy points all season.  As an added bonus, the Knicks are playing the fast-paced Timberwolves, who have the distinction of being the worst defensive team in the league not named the Los Angeles Lakers.  This is a fantastic spot for Shumpert, and he should be in every lineup tonight without question.

James Harden ( $10,300 ) – There are blowout concerns here, but Harden is capable of posting 50+ fantasy points in three quarters against this Lakers team.  It doesn’t hurt that coach Kevin McHale tends to play his starters a little longer than other coaches would when a game is well in hand.  The Lakers are the worst defensive team in the league and have no way of stopping Harden tonight.  He’s easy to roster tonight because of the fantastic value plays available.

GPP Options: Eric Bledsoe ( $6,600 ), Gerald Green ( $4,100 ) — note, Green is always a fabulous GPP option, just understand that if he turds, he will tank your lineup completely, Kobe Bryant ( $8,800 )

Small Forward

Tobias Harris ( $7,300 ) – Harris and his Orlando Magic face the Los Angeles Clippers, in what is sure to be an up tempo affair. Tobias is becoming an every single night play since the return of Victor Oladipo. With “Dipo” off the court, in 661 total posessions Harris has a usage rate of 24.9%, an effective FG% of 47.9%, and a points per possession metric of 1.00. With Oladipo on the court with Harris, in 134 possessions so far this year Tobias’s usage rate is 20.0%, an effective FG% of 63.5%, and a points per possession metric of 1.43 (which is absolutely incredible). To put this in perspective, consider that the Dallas Mavericks lead the NBA in points per possession with 1.17.

Khris Middleton ( $3,200 ) – Middleton remains a good play as long he stays in the Milwaukee Bucks starting rotation. He isn’t a guy that you can use across the board as a value play though, due to Head Coach Jason Kidd’s often wacky rotations. However, at a position (SF) that is often irritating, taking a chance by playing Bucks is actually doable.

GPP Options: Evan Turner ( $4,300 ), Corey Brewer ( $4,000 ), Carmelo Anthony ( $9,400 )

Power Forward

Anthony Bennett ( $3,000 ) – Bennett is just one of those automatic plug-n-plays. With a slew of injuries to the Minnesota Timberwolves front court, not only will Bennett start, but he’ll get a lot of run. Bennett also has been reported to have dealt with vision problems, not just his weight issue last year, so I expected him to be significantly more effective than he was last year.

Tim Duncan ( $8,200 ) – Duncan can be hard to use in cash games due to his sporadic playing time — caused by his age and a smart coach. However, this is a game that is expected to be close so we should Duncan put up at least 37 in this matchup. He also always has the ability to put up huge numbers. Boris Diaw is really good at guarding stretch “4’s” so I expect him to be roaming wherever Kevin Love happens to be, while Duncan patrols the inside.

Other Options: Jared Sullinger ( $7,300 ), Greg Monroe ( $7,200 )

Center

Gorgui Dieng ( $5,000 ) – Dieng is once again another one of those “plug-n-plays”. With Nikola Pekovic, Ronny Turiaf and Thaddeus Young out, Dieng and Bennett are the only healthy players who can play the 5 and the 4 effectively — no, Robbie Hummel does NOT count. Dieng has massive upside, as we saw last year when Pekovic missed time and Dieng was serving up 40 fantasy point performances regularly.
