2014 Fantasy Football Daily Fix: Week 5 Wide Recievers
Welcome to Wide Receiver Wednesday at the Daily Fix! Each Wednesday of the NFL regular season I’ll provide you with several receiving options that are strong plays that week at DraftKings. Monday through Friday the Fix writers will provide you with a Daily Fix that covers each position, with a weekly roundup on Friday.
Not into the ‘Daily‘ thing yet? Let’s talk. It’s a ton of fun, you get to start new each week and pick your squad, and DraftKings has a great promo going right now where they’ll match your initial deposit up to $600. Do it. Oh, and you get a free year’s subscription to our premium content as well in the #FrontOffice.
The Wide Receiver position is loaded with options in this new, ever-prolific passing era of the NFL, so options abound. I’ll break it up into tiers, essentially, WR1’s, 2’s, 3’s and FLEX/deep options.
Your WR1 and WR2’s are no-brainer starts in your normal fantasy leagues. I’ll highlight them if they have an exceptional matchup or price. We’re likely going to find some inexpensive plays here week in a week out as well, due to the depth at the position. We’ll need to dig a little deeper as we’re entering bye weeks, but I hope to continue picking winners for you.
Scoring and other settings can be found here.
WR1
Antonio Brown – TB @ PIT ($8,100)
The four most expensive FLEX options this week are from the wide receiver position. One of them is Brown. It’s hard not to go back to the Brown well again this week, even though we’ve been drinking from it as if it were Natty Light at a college tailgate. This week Brown faces the lowly Jaguars who have given up the most fantasy points per game to the position so far in 2014. Targets are assured, and touchdowns have followed. Play.
Julio Jones – ATL @ NYG ($8,000)
The Falcons’ inability to stop the run will be a blessing for the Falcons passing game this season from a fantasy perspective. Jones is a mismatch for anyone lining up to stop him. The Falcons know this and 24.2 FPPG reflect that. I love Julio’s chances to score this week in a game I look to go ‘over’ the total.
WR2
Jeremy Maclin – PHI @ SF ($5,600)
This is where I continue to find the most value every week, the WR2’s. There are often multiple wideouts in the $6,000-$5,300 range that are steals each week. The first here is Jeremy Maclin. My WR10 this week, Maclin is priced as the WR22 according to DraftKings. Despite a lackluster showing by his quarterback on Sunday in San Francisco, Maclin again led the league in targets with 15 for the week. This is value
Emmanuel Sanders – AZ @ DEN ($5,100)
There’s a price correction on Sanders that seems to have gone too far. His season to date production has him as a top 10 play, but clearly the return of Wes Welker should impact Sanders’ production moving forward. Right? Not so fast. Welker returned in week 3 against Seattle, a game that saw Sanders go for 11/149. I think Sanders is a ‘sell’ in season-long leagues if you can get WR1 value, but he’s a steal at DraftKings in Week 5.
WR3
DeAndre Hopkins – HOU @ DAL ($4,800)
Here’s another great value. I have DeAndre Hopkins in my top 20 at the position this week, and I bet he’s there more often than not moving forward. He’s the real deal, and the Cowboys will have their hands full with Hopkins this weekend. He’s either scored or topped 100 yards in each game this season.
Kelvin Benjamin – CHI @ CAR ($4,800)
Looking at early Week 5 positional rankings from FantasyPros, not a single expert has Benjamin outside of the top 20 this week. This price has him outside of the top 30. Ca-ching! These are the guys you need each week because they allow you to spend big at other positions. Benjamin is $1,000 cheaper than last week, and is facing a Bears team that’s giving up the 5th most FPPG to receivers.
FLEX
Andrew Hawkins – CLE @ TEN ($3,500)
There’s nothing flashy or exciting about throwing Andrew Hawkins into your lineup, but man, he sure feels safe. He’s averaging over 15 FPPG so far with little deviation from that number in each of his three games. The Titans defense has been an epic failure so far, and Hawkins will continue to get open and cause havoc. Remember this is PPR scoring, people!
Louis Murphy– TB @ NO ($3,000)
This week’s winning lotto ticket is Louis Murphy in Tampa Bay. Murphy was out of football last week, and today he’s fantasy relevant, especially here in daily games. He’s been served a big ole’ dish of opportunity, and I expect him to eat this weekend. Rookie Mike Evans is out for a few weeks, and Murphy slides into the WR2 role after being cut by this same team back in August.
It’s worth noting that while he was in camp with the Buccaneers, he worked mostly with now-starter Mike Glennon, who was the backup at the time. The chemistry seems real, as Murphy saw 11 targets in limited action on Sunday against the Steelers. This week Murphy faces the Saints in New Orleans and will likely be battling from behind against a team that’s giving up the most points to receivers this season.
