2019 FANTASY FOOTBALL, WEEK THREE WAIVER WIRE: More in store for Gore?
Two weeks of the 2019 NFL Season are already in the books, can you believe it? Hope you are dominating your league and keeping up with player news, snap counts, touches, targets and game flow. Also, staying on top of available players in your league is crucial. Don’t always just check your roster, see where other GM’s are hurting and think in the future of how you can ‘one up’ them. Also a good time to start scheming for potential trades. Hope you are doing your homework, but if not… I have.
Lots of injuries starting to pile up around the league and some interesting options are presenting themselves on the waiver wire. Some players to keep tabs on during the week would be James Conner and the KC Running Backs, more info on those situations below. Most fantasy seasons live and die on the Waiver Wire. Even if you do not currently need a player, you can build your bench or potentially steal a player away from another GM’s roster. Be sneaky, great motto to have in fantasy sports.
Enough of the pleasantries, lets get to work.
Running Backs
Frank Gore (BUF)
Ownership: 17% ESPN, 8% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: %59%
19 rushes for 68 yards and a touchdown, 2 targets caught for 15 yards
RB Devin Singletary suffered a hamstring injury Week 2 and most likely will be out. Frank Gore is a cheap RB1 on the wire, do not expect a high ceiling… but a workable floor for a Flex option. Will get 15+ touches, exactly what you are looking for off the wire.
Jaylen Samuels (PIT)
Ownership: 26% ESPN, 35% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 39%
3 rushes for 18 yards, 1 Target caught for 13 yards
James Conner could potentially be out. Next up would be Jaylen to fill the void. Remember that Big Ben is now out and Mason Rudolph will need to check down and rely on the running game to help him down the field. If Conner is out, 15+ touches but not a great match up against the 49ers front seven. Even with Conner back, I expect Samuels to be more involved in the offense.
Raheem Mostert (SF)
Ownership: 11% ESPN, 17% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 47%
13 rushes for 83 yards, 4 targets, 3 caught for 63 yards and a TD
Tevin Coleman is still on the shelf with the high ankle sprain. Matt Breida started but shared the rock with Raheem. Both backs will be used heavily in this game against Pittsburgh. Also will be used used in the passing game which ups his floor. Another guy who should get 15 touches. Don’t look now… SF is 2-0 (both road wins) and has won each by more than 14 points. Game Script in favor of SF backs so far in ’19 and the D-Fence is solid.
Darwin Thompson (KC)
Ownership: 19% ESPN, 18% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 5%
Rushed 1 time for 1 yard
Gonna have to keep an eye on the injuries of both LeSean McCoy and Damien Williams. If those guys are both out, Darwin Thompson would become an add and plug in play. Injuries could thrust him in a role in the potent KC offense, I would want some of that. Be on top of player news and alerts before your waivers drop. If one of D.Williams or Shady are OK, don’t waste your time here… unless you are hurting big time.
Justin Jackson (LAC)
Ownership: 38% ESPN, 33% Yahoo
Snap Percentage: 27%
7 rushes for 59 yards, 1 target caught for 5 yards
Austin Eckler is being used an awful lot plus had a goal line fumble in week 2. The Bolts might pull back his usage and why not if you have JJ ready to roll. Jackson did have a 60 yard TD scamper that was called back due to a holding penalty. Could see his usage tick up moving forward.
Wide Receivers
Mecole Hardman (KC) – I told you last week to get him, now he is above 40% owned. Always looking for fantasy gold, Lunchmade will be mining for ya!
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 74%
7 targets good for four catches, 61 yards and a TD… he also had a 74 yard touchdown called back due to a holding penalty.
IF HE IS STILL AVAILABLE, #1 ADD FOR ME THIS WEEK. Yes, over fellow KC receiver Demarcus Robinson.
Demarcus Robinson (KC)
Ownership: 1% ESPN, 8% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 91%
6 targets total and them all for 172 yards and two scores.
We all thought Sammy Watkins was gonna be the guy in Week 2, enter Demarcus Robinson. Have you seen Patrick Mahomes play (today is his 24th birthday, HBD stud!), so much action downfield. Problem is, who will be the beneficiary. Watkins still had 13 targets for 6 receptions and 49 yards. Lots of love to go around and should be a shootout against the Ravens.
DJ Chark (JAC)
Ownership: 22% ESPN, 13% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 82%
9 targets were good for 7 receptions, 55 yards and a TD.
Dede Westbrook saw 5 targets, caught 1 for 1 yard. Gardner Minshew looked Chark’s way more and they have a good connection. Two weeks, a score in each. Remember Week 1 he went 4/146 and a TD. Chark could be the guy moving forward in Jacksonville. It also rhymes with Clark… Bingo.
Deebo Samuel (SF)
Ownership: 13% ESPN, 14% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 40%
7 targets good for 5 catches, 87 yards and a TD. Had 2 rushing attempts for 7 yards
Marquise Goodwin scored a TD on some blown coverage. Dante Pettis is not even showing up and is drop-able in 12 team leagues with his 1 target in ’19. Someone has to catch balls other than Kittle and I like the upside of Deebo + his name alone would be sick for your Fantasy Team.
Randall Cobb (DAL)
Ownership: 18% ESPN, 24% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 76%
6 targets good for 5 receptions for 24 yards.
Michael Gallup is having a knee surgery today which is such a shame as he was looking so good. This is another situation of opportunity. Someone will have to step up to catch balls in Dallas, does Cobb still have what it takes left in the tank? Jason Witten is aging at the same rate but has been successful in the Cowboys scheme. Cobb could be in for a huge game against the putrid Dolphins at home on Sunday. Keep an eye on WR Devin Smith too who went 3/74 and a TD. Dak has thrown 7 touchdowns already in ’19
Tight Ends
Will Dissly (SEA)
Ownership: 2% ESPN, 4% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 59%
Targeted 5 times and hauled in all of them for 50 yards and 2 touchdowns
Will is on the field a good amount and remember last year started hot until a torn patella sidelined him Week 4. He is now healthy and could be a offensive piece moving forward for Russell and the Seahawks. Was third in team targets behind Metcalf and Lockett in Week 2.
Gerald Everett (LAR)
Ownership: 1% ESPN, 4% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 71%
5 targets good for 3 catches and 21 yards.
Tyler Higbee was coughing up blood after the game and taken to the hospital diagnosed with a bruised lung. Gotta a feeling he sits out the trip to Cleveland for SNF. Everett would get a increased roll and could be a very sneaky pick up and play.
Jason Witten (DAL)
Ownership: 19% ESPN, 15% Yahoo
Week 2 Snap Percentage: 77%
4 targets hauled in for 25 yards and a TD
Witten just keeps on keepin’ on. He will have to pick-up the slack that Gallup has left behind and still is a reliable TE2. With all of the craziness this year with tight ends, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has another production season at age 37. Remember, Dak already has thrown 7 TDs and now faced the Dolphins at home.
Best of luck with your waiver claims and stay on top of player injury reports. Make your bench strong and start looking ahead at BYE weeks! Go Week 3!
