Monday Night Football Preview: Cowboys at Redskins
Monday December 7, 2015
Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins
I bet at the beginning of the season if I told you one of these teams would be leading the division and one would be a candidate for the first-overall pick no one would have had the Cowboys in the league’s basement. Only the Titans and Browns have fewer wins than the Cowboys. A handful of teams are tied with three wins including the 49ers. What a nightmare of a season for Dallas. There is very little to like about this team in any aspect of the game on either side of the ball.
Dallas Cowboys: Key Players
QB Matt Cassel
Well, Cassel is awful. It’s pretty much as simple as that. The Redskins secondary is pretty terrible, but Cassel is worse. Jerry Jones says after the past two weeks, Cassel is now prepared to be a starter. In related news, Jerry Jones is an idiot.
Verdict: Sit Cassel. Because there is nothing to like about Cassel.
RB Darren McFadden
McFadden is good for about 20 touches per game. However, it’s like just watching him waiting for him to get injured. One of these games he’s going to go down in the first quarter and kill fantasy owners, nevertheless, he is still a viable option for the time being.
Verdict: Start McFadden. I don’t love him or even like him, but he’s certainly worth starting. The Redskins are dead center of the league against fantasy RBs.
WR Dez Bryant
This season has been a disaster for Bryant owners. Murphy’s Law has been upheld this year. He broke his foot Week 1 and old fragile Tony can’t keep his clavicles intact. Bryant has been condemned to a life with Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel. Doesn’t get much worse than that.
Verdict: Start Bryant. You almost have to start your first-round pick, the upside is too great. Still, temper expectations.
TE Jason Witten
Witten is old and looks old. Still, he is old reliable. He has clearly on a steep decline but is still good for about five catches for 50 yards. He actually played better with Cassel than Romo this season.
Verdict: Sit Witten. He’s a solid option if you’re in a pinch but is not a TE1 even in 12-team leagues.
Washington Redskins: Key Players
QB Kirk Cousins
Cousins has actually been really solid at home this season and the Cowboys’ secondary is not particularly good. Still, I have a really hard time rolling with Cousins.
Verdict: Sit Cousins. I just can’t put my faith in this guy at this point in the season.
RB Alfred Morris
Alf has been terrible this season, nonetheless, he’s still the best option in Washington, maybe? Matt Jones may have more PPR value, but Morris is clearly the top runner. Chris Thompson is also in the mix stealing snaps and targets. This backfield is atrocious from a Fantasy pfrspective.
Verdict: Sit Morris. He hasn’t rushed for 100 yards since Week 1 and has no touchdowns this season. Not very good.
WR DeSean Jackson
D-Jax is finally starting to come on after being hindered by a hamstring injury all year. He is coming off by far his two best games of the season. In the past two games he caught seven passes for 153 yards and two TDs. He only had five catches for 59 yards on the season previously.
Verdict: Start Jackson. He is the ultimate boom-or-bust option. While he could completely let you down, his upside is immense.
TE Jordan Reed
Reed is another guy that is an injury waiting to happen. Still, he’s been great this season. He’s good for about six catches a game and has six TDs on the season. He’s a clear-cut TE1 when healthy.
Verdict: Start Reed. He’s a scary guy to watch when you own him because he’s so injury prone. Still, he’s a must-start this week.
