Monday Night Football Preview: Giants at Dolphins
Monday December 14, 2015
New York Giants @ Miami Dolphins
This is a solid matchup of two evenly matched teams. This game could really go either way. It will likely be a high-scoring shootout as long as these talented but inconsistent quarterbacks don’t fall flat. The Dolphins are clinging on to longshot playoff hopes, while the Giants are in contention for the crown in the miserable NFC East. This is actually a pretty big game in a depressing kind of way when you look at their records. The highlight of this game will likely be watching former LSU teammates Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry put on a show.
New York Giants: Key Players
QB Eli Manning
Manning has a great matchup against a struggling Dolphins defense that is near the bottom of the league when it comes to allowing points. They’re allowing the eleventh-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Manning throws the ball nearly 40 times per game. Has 3,318 and 24 TDs on the season.
Verdict: Start Manning. A high volume passer with a great matchup and Beckham at his disposal is a very solid start.
RB Shane Vereen
None of the Giants running backs are a safe bet in their muddled backfield. However, your best bet is Vereen in PPR leagues. His upside is somewhat limited due to lack of touches, still, he’s much better than Rashad Jennings, Andre Williams and Orleans Darkwa.
Verdict: Sit Vereen. He isn’t a terrible flex option, nonetheless, hopefully you have a better option at this point.
WR Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham is an elite WR1 and should be started each and every week regardless of matchup. Brent Grimes is a very solid corner but not as dominant as he was a few years back. Still, ODB is a complete mismatch for him.
Verdict: Start Beckham. He’s a must-start every single week.
TE Will Tye
Tye is coming off the three best game of his career. Over the past three weeks he has caught 14 passes for 200 yards. His numbers won’t blow you away, but are solid nonetheless. He is the best TE in this game.
Verdict: Start Tye. If you’ve gotten to this point, he’s the best TE available tonight so plug him in.
Miami Dolphins: Key Players
QB Ryan Tannehill
Tannehill saw his opportunities drastically decrease last week against a great matchup. This week his matchup is even better. The Giants are last in the league against the pass and are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Still, the concern is, how much will they allow him to throw?
Verdict: Start Tannehill. He has a great matchup, but did little with much of the same last week. Nevertheless, we’ll give him one more chance.
RB Lamar Miller
Miller has a ton of talent and when they actually decide to use him, he’s very productive. It appears he is being more heavily integrated into the offense with offensive coordinator Bill Lazor fired. The Giants are better against the run than pass but still aren’t very good.
Verdict: Start Miller. He’s a talented well-rounded back that can pound it inside or hit the home run at any given time. The former Miami Hurricane is very underrated. Much in part to under usage and poor game planning.
WR Jarvis Landry
Despite an inexplicably terrible Week 13, Landry has developed into a star slot receiver. He should see a ton of targets this week and catch a lot of passes. We fully expect him to bounce back in major way.
Verdict: Start Landry. He is PPR gold and pretty much a must-start on a weekly basis.
WR DeVante Parker
The first-round pick has come on strong as of late. It took him a while but he’s starting to show why he was so highly coveted this season. After having four catches for eight yards for the entire season, he has caught seven passes for 140 yards and two TDs over the past two games. He has been seeing a lot more snaps with Rishard Matthews out with a rib injury.
Verdict: Start Parker. He is probably the best flex option in this game. I’d start him over any Giants running backs, Rueben Randle or Kenny Stills.
