2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Daily Fantasy Sports Fix: Friday, January 3rd

With only four games on the slate tonight, it can be tough to decipher exactly which players to choose from. Fortunately, the teams playing today are some of the best offensive teams in the league – Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks.

Thoughts and Musings:

There’s no question that after – and humble brag, i predicted this would happen — the Chicago Blackhawks fell to the New York Islanders last night, that many of the Daily Fantasy Hockey players that do nothing but spam Hawks were disappointed. Despite their failure to beat the Islanders — one of the worst teams in the Metro Division — we expect things to be different tonight for Chicago against the New Jersey Devils.

The key here believe it or not, is the referees calling this game. Chris Rooney and Brian Pochmara are the top two referees in the league for most minor penalties called.

Here’s the thing: the Blackhawks have an incredibly lethal power-play, everyone knows that. But the Devils hold the leagues third best power-play. If you stream the entire Blackhawks team, make it be in a contest like the NHL $20 10x Booster game, which costs two dollars to enter, but allows you to double your money if you make the Top-3 (contains 34 players)

My favorite game to pick from tonight is undoubtedly the Edmonton Oilers @ Anaheim Ducks. The Oilers are coming off a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the San Jose Sharks, and while the better of their two goalies, Ilya Bryzgalov, is in net tonight, the vast talent difference between the two teams should be painfully evident. We expect a relatively easy win for the best team in the Pacific Division.

The Pittsburgh Penguins face off against the New York Rangers at home tonight. The starting goaltenders in that game are Henrik Lundqvist and Marc-Andre FleuryFleury, who’s Draft Kings DFS price is a cool $8,900, would be a great start on most fantasy nights, but with such high scoring teams going tonight, you may want to look toward spending money on offense.

Game Picks:

Chicago ices the Devils 3-2: Expect defensemen Marek Zidlicky ($4,500) and Andy Greene ($4,400) to contribute offensively for the Devils. Antti Raanta is PROBABLY going to get the start in net for the Blackhawks. It just wouldn’t make much sense to go with Corey Crawford again in a back-to-back especially with him just coming off injured reserve. Raanta is my goalie of choice tonight at just a $6,800 DFS price.

Pittsburgh quiets the Rangers 4-3: Sidney Crosby as always, is a brilliant choice.

Anaheim drills the Oilers 5-1: Expect huge contributions from the Andrew CoglianoSaku KoivuDaniel Winnik line, which has quietly been the best line for the Ducks in terms of chemistry and production other than Perry and Getzlaf. Also, Jakob Silfverberg skated last game with Perry and Getzlaf, and at $4,200 that’s a beautiful price.

Tampa Bay puts out the Flames 3-0: Ben Bishop is expensive, at $10,000, but if you want big points, go with the 6’7 goaltender, as he undoubtedly will be in full control in an effort to show Team USA that they made a huge mistake by leaving him off their roster.

Official Lineup:

C- Sidney Crosby | $9,600

LW- Mats Zuccarello | $5,200

RW- Jaromir Jagr | $5,100

D- Brent Seabrook | $5,300

D- Brooks Orpik | $3,200

G- Ben Bishop | $10,000

U- Nick Bonino | $4,200

U- Jakob Silfverberg | $4,100

U- Mathieu Perreault | $3,200
