Thoughts and Musings:
Coyotes win 4-1 over the Leafs: The return of Zbynek Michalek has been huge for the Coyotes. The defensive-minded Czech native is a key cog in Phoenix’s defensive rotation, as they are 17-6-3 with him and 6-10-6 without him. I like Mike Smith in net tonight, as well as Mikkel Boedker, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Keith Yandle. Also, Mike Ribeiro and Antoine Vermette are nice value plays tonight.
Predators win 3-1 over the Stars. The Stars really struggle when they are on the road, having won just two games in there last 10 road chances since a 4-3 victory over the Blackhawks back on December 3rd. The reason for this is because they are essentially a one line team. Expect Shea Weber on the ice whenever Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are. Those two Dallas players are NOT good starts tonight. For the Predators, I love Weber, and David Legwand, Craig Smith and Nick Spaling. That line has been on fire lately. Finally, Carter Hutton is a great value choice in GPP’s.
Sharks win 3-0 over the Flames: This game has some interesting story lines as the Sharks are returning home after a long East Coast road trip, while the Flames are coming off a ridiculously odd game against the Canucks. Calgary could be very pumped up, but San Jose is just so much better. I love Brent Burns tonight, as well as Joe Pavelski, Matthew Nieto and Tommy Wingels. Patrick Marleau is fine too, but he’s sort of high priced, and I would rather play Boedker or Pittsburgh’s Chris Kunitz or James Neal.
Penguins win 4-1 over the Panthers: Scott Clemmensen goes for the Panthers and this one, and he is terrible. The 36-year-old net-minder lacks rebound control, a fact that spells good news for defensemen Olli Maatta, Matt Niskanen and Paul Martin who is returning from injury tonight. The Penguins are getting healthy at exactly the right time for Daily Fantasy players. Also, Tomas Kopecky will miss this game, according to George Richards of the Miami Herald. Thus, I love Chris Kunitz, James Neal, Jussi Jokinen and Chuck Kobasew. Of course, Crosby and Malkin as well, but there are lots of good starts tonight at center.
