2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Daily Fix: Saturday, January 11th
Playing Daily Fantasy Sports is about making the right percentage play. Last night, we went with the percentages and stacked our lineup with studs from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Unfortunately, the Edmonton Oilers stunned everyone by downing the Pens 4-3 in overtime.
We are back at it again tonight, completely unfazed by the rare upset.

Thoughts and Musings:
The Chicago Blackhawks french fry the Montreal Canadiens 4-2: The Habs are one of the quicker teams in the National Hockey League, but they lack size from their main skill players. I expect Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp will have good games tonight (in particular) because Montreal tends to not match up well against elite lines. On the other hand, they usually match up fairly well against speedy third lines. I would not stack the Hawks tonight, but i would feel comfortable going with Toews and Sharp. There is always the potential for Carey Price to be on his best game, so we don’t want to pull all our eggs in one basket — though a blowout win is always possible!
The Pittsburgh Penguins put on the Flames 4-1. Once again, we are going back to the well with the Penguins because they are simply an excellent percentage play. Feel comfortable going with any of Sidney Crosby, James Neal, Evgeni Malkin, Chris Kunitz, and Jussi Jokinen and Matt Niskanen.
The New Jersey Devils defeat the Florida Panthers 2-1: This game is a toss-up, but Cory Schneider is nice and cheap at just $6,800. We like him tonight.
The Columbus Blue Jackets ground the Jets 4-2: The Jets are good at home, and even better against the Eastern Conference, but with Ondrej Pavelec in net, don’t expect the Jets to yield any fewer than three goals. Furthermore, the Blue Jackets are coming off an impressive 3-0 win last night against the white-hot Carolina Hurricanes. Granted, the travel will be tough for them, but they shook up their lines last night — it played a huge factor. Dustin Byfuglien moves to wing for the first time since his days in Chicago, so I’m going to start him everywhere I can — but it’s a gamble. Byfuglien is the only Jet I am starting tonight, choosing to go instead with Artem Anisimov, Ryan Johansen, Brandon Dubinsky, and Cam Atkinson sprinkled sporadically throughout my lineups. The idea behind loving the Columbus centers is that Olli Jokinen of the Jets, is a horrendous defensive center, and Mark Scheifele is young and inexperienced defensively as well.
Stay away from the Anaheim @ Phoenix game. Thomas Greiss is a sneaky good goaltender, and the Coyotes are very tough at home. Prediction: Phoenix 3 – Anaheim 2 (not extremely confident)
