2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Daily Fix: Thursday, January 9th
There are a couple games tonight I would love to take full advantage of, but the majority of the NHL slate is packed with toss up games.
Thoughts and Musings:
The Carolina Hurricanes rake the Leafs 4-2. Carolina has had a nice layover after their game in Buffalo on Tuesday was postponed due to inclement weather. The Hurricanes are hot right now, especially at home. I love Jeff Skinner, Alex Semin, and Andrej Sekera tonight. In a lineup I have loaded with Hurricanes, I have also included Manny Maholtra, Nathan Gerbe and Justin Faulk. Projected Hurricanes starter Anton Khudobin is my number one goaltender choice tonight, and I’m rolling him out in the vast majority of my leagues.
The St. Louis Blues ice the Flames 5-1. The Flames put up a great fight against the Colorado Avalanche a few games ago, before being incinerated by the Phoenix Coyotes 6-0. The Blues are an elite team, and their trio of Vladimir Tarasenko, Vladimir Sobotka, and Patrik Berglund is on fire right now. I like all of those guys a lot tonight, with Tarasenko being the guy I have starting in every single league.
The Washington Capitals stay in their cars, safe from the Lightning, winning 4-2. The Bolts are an incredible home team, but the Capitals Philipp Grubauer has been sensational when he starts in net, whilst Anders Lindback, the Lightning backup (since Ben Bishop has been hurt), has been absolutely horrendous. I expect the Lightning to control play and have the vast majority of the shots on net in this one. Grubauer will come up big, and the Capitals will capitalize (no pun intended) on a few of their power-plays and score at least three goals on Lindback in the game. Feel confident rolling out Mike Green, John Carlson, Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin.
The Anaheim Ducks de-fang the Predators 4-1. The Predators are a very tough home team, especially when they get the lead. They are 14-0-2 when leading after two periods. However, the Ducks will be rolling out Frederik Andersen in net. Andersen has been excellent during his few starts this year. Expect the depth lines from Anaheim to pot some goals. I like Andrew Cogliano, Nick Bonino, Kyle Palmieri and Jakob Silfverberg a lot tonight.
Other players I like tonight:
Erik Cole– Dallas
Ryan Suter– Minnesota
Mikkel Boedker– Phoenix
Gustav Nyquist– Detroit
Henrik Zetterberg– Detroit
