2014-15 Fantasy Hockey: Week 21 Waiver Wire
We’re in the final stretch of the season. With only two weeks left before the playoffs, fantasy owners are looking for players who can help carry their team into the playoffs. The waiver wire becomes more and more important this time of year, and finding players with good fantasy value from now until the end of the season becomes even harder. Let’s take a look at which players you should be targeting on the waiver wire this week.
Mark Stone | Ottawa Senators | Yahoo! Ownership—15%
For some reason fantasy owners have forgotten about Stone. The 22-year-old has been exceptionally good since month of January—scoring 26 points (8G, 18A) in 28 games. The sixth round pick in 2010 is skating on the second line with Kyle Turris and Milan Michalek and should continue to provide excellent value for fantasy owners who need a touch of scoring down the stretch. Add him if you still have the chance.
Who I’d drop for him: Matt Moulson (30%), Troy Brouwer (25%), Carl Hagelin (23%)
Ryan Spooner | Boston Bruins | Yahoo! Ownership—1%
With David Krejci out for awhile, Ryan Spooner has found a nice home on the team’s second line with Milan Lucic and David Pastrnak. The 23-year-old has been red hot recently — riding a five game point streak and playing just over sixteen minutes a game. The Bruins are trying to secure the last wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and will need their secondary scoring to help chip in some goals on a nightly basis. The second round pick in 2010 isn’t going to tear it up offensively every night, but he could easily put up 5-10 points from now until the end of the season. Fantasy owners who are looking to add a player for the playoffs should look to add Spooner if they need some help.
Who I’d drop for him: Mike Santorelli (6%), Andrew Shaw (12%), Antoine Roussel (16%)
Erik Cole | Detroit Red Wings | Yahoo! Ownership—16%
The veteran now finds himself playing a key role in helping the Red Wings get to the Stanley Cup. The 36-year-old has 35 points (18G, 17A) in 60 games this season and two points with his new team since being traded on March 2. The third round pick in 1998 is skating on a line with Justin Abdelkader and captain Henrik Zetterberg and should see a boost in his fantasy production from now until the end of the season. Cole is going to get every opportunity to help the team fight for top spot in the East, and for fantasy owners who need a short-term solution because of injuries, Cole is the best way to go.
Who I’d drop for him: Ales Hemsky (20%), Alexander Semin (33%), Patrik Elias (24%).
