Daily Fantasy Hockey: DraftKings Value Picks, January 5, 2016
The Fix always has a full breakdown of significant NHL slates for our Front Office subscribers, but now we’re also going to be highlighting a few value plays for everyone on most days with big NHL slates. Below you’ll find three or four players who are cheap and undervalued in today’s DraftKings contests.
If you’d like to read our full breakdown of tonight’s slate, complete with player rankings, you can become a Front Office member or purchase today’s breakdown individually right here.
Viktor Arvidsson—Nashville Predators–$2800
Arvidsson has been quiet over his last ten games, picking up just a single assist, but that shouldn’t deter anyone from using him tonight against a very shaky Jets team. The 22-year-old is expected to skate on a line with Colin Wilson and James Neal and that entire line should get a favourable matchup against Winnipeg’s second line. At $2800, the risk is minimal. Arvidsson is a bargain bin gem tonight, and he should be able to pick up at least one point by the end of the night. If you want to fit Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn into your lineup, you’re going to need some cheap players with high upside, and Arvidsson is the perfect mix of both.
Ben Scrivens—Montreal Canadiens–$6300
Before you start calling me a homer, let me dish out some numbers for you about the Flyers at home:
➢ Ranked 23rd in GF/60 (1.89)
➢ 10th in SF/60 (32.1)
➢ 30th in SA/60 (34.3)
➢ 21st in CF% (49.6%)
➢ 26th in Sh% (5.84)
The Flyers are an above-average team when it comes to shooting the puck, but they just can’t seem to put the puck in the back of the net. To make matters worse, they also give up a boatload of shots to their opponent. The Habs were pretty bad during the month of December, but they started the new year with a win, and they could easily pick up another win tonight. Scrivens is not the safest play on the board, but he could be the best value of the night.
Patrick Eaves—Dallas Stars–$3000
This article wouldn’t be complete without mentioning a Dallas forward. The Rangers have been terrible since the beginning of December, and I don’t expect it to get any better tonight. Their defense is below average and Henrik Lundqvist hasn’t been there to save his team. Dallas’ top line is the obvious play, but they’ll cost you an arm and a leg to fit the trio in your lineup. The best value of the night belongs to Patrick Eaves. The 29th overall pick in 2003 hasn’t done much scoring since the beginning of the season, tallying just three goals in 22 games, but the winger is expected to play on a line with Jason Spezza and Mattias Janmark and see some power play time on the second unit. At $3000, he’s a bargain bin play that could easily hit his value after the first period.
