Daily Fantasy Hockey: DraftKings Value Picks, January 7, 2015

The Fix always has a full breakdown of significant NHL slates for our Front Office subscribers, but now we’re also going to be highlighting a few value plays for everyone on most days with big NHL slates. Below you’ll find three or four players who are cheap and undervalued in today’s DraftKings contests. Thursday night is modestly robust with seven games. 2016 is well underway so let’s go!

If you’d like to read our full breakdown of tonight’s slate, complete with player rankings, you can become a Front Office member or purchase today’s breakdown individually right here.

Peter Holland – C – Toronto Maple Leafs – $3200

One of the bad things about looking at a team like Toronto on the back end of the back to back is this: Holland could face a more ideal match-up then say a Leo Komarov or Tyler Bozak. Holland has hit value or exceeded it in three of his last four games.

Los Angeles plays a stifling style but can be prone to mistakes from time to time. The center is reasonably priced and has been more pivotal than most think as Toronto is 8-2-2 in their last dozen contests. His minutes have also been hovering around 15-16 minutes, so at least he is not being relegated to bottom six minutes.

Milan Michalek – LW – Ottawa Senators – $3300

The forward has missed 16 games with a finger injury but returns on Thursday to play against the Florida Panthers. He is right now slotted to play on the second line with Mike Hoffman and Mika Zibanejad. Considering Michalek mostly was shuffled into the bottom six, he only tallied eight points on the young season in 24 games.

This could be a real boon if Michalek can feed off Hoffman’s speed. It appears Michalek’s minutes should inch up from the 15 minutes he was playing before his injury. One can project his time might be as high as 17 minutes or so depending on the flow of the game.

Marek Zidlicky – D – New York Islanders – $3300

The defenseman is high risk because most of his success comes off the power play, which means his even strength time can often be limited (typically around 15 minutes a night). However, Zidlicky just has that knack and he does know Washington very well from his days with New Jersey.

Now if he happens to be on the ice with John Tavares and the first power play unit on occasion, that will be his best chance for any points. Zidlicky is guaranteed to be very low owned.

Louis Domingue – G – Arizona Coyotes – $6300

There is confirmation that Domingue will start on Thursday against Calgary. Domingue stopped 35 of 37 shots in Vancouver this week and faces the Flames who have had some struggles scoring of late. Calgary did not generate a ton of chances against Tampa Bay Tuesday but won nonetheless.

Domingue may face a few more shots just because of the pace at which Arizona plays. In his last three starts, the goalie has faced a total of 115 shots on net. It seems like the more works he sees, the better off he is. If one is looking to save a little extra money, the risk may just be offset by the reward.
