Daily Fantasy Hockey Strategy: Value Picks, March 1st

The Fix always has a full breakdown of significant NHL slates for our Front Office subscribers, but now we’re also going to be highlighting a few value plays for everyone on most days with big NHL slates. Below you’ll find three or four players who are cheap and undervalued in today’s main DraftKings contests as well as some FanDuel contests from 7:00 pm on.

If you’d like to read our full breakdown of tonight’s slate, complete with player rankings, you can become a Front Office member or purchase today’s breakdown individually here.

DRAFTKINGS

Robby Fabbri— St. Louis Blues–$3400 ($4100 on FanDuel)

The center is a far better value on DraftKings where his price dipped just below $3500 once more and that makes him viable, especially after his goal and assist in the third period against Carolina. Yes, Fabbri can be his own worst enemy on the defensive side but needs to probably play a bit more to learn those valuable lessons instead of being stuck with inferior linemates. The encouraging thing is that he has three power play points in the last nine contests.

Phillip Di Giuseppe — Carolina Hurricanes –$3000 ($3100 on FanDuel)

He is providing more shots and scoring chances than he had even in his first few weeks when he was getting points at an impressive rate. Maybe there was no goal or assist for him on Sunday but Di Giuseppe did lead Carolina in shots on goal with seven. New Jersey is kind of playing out the string as well and the forward has just enough tenacity to really test the New Jersey defense.

Brandon Davidson — Edmonton Oilers — $3100 ($3000 on FanDuel)

When a player starts to up his floor, people should take notice. Davidson is a very good salary relief, almost a punt play on all sites this Tuesday. He is up to nearly 2.5 blocks per game over the past few weeks and almost two shots a contest in that span. Davidson just recorded his first multi-point game of his career, has five points in the last 13 games, and is fitting in nicely as his minutes go upward.

Michael Hutchinson — Winnipeg Jets — $6300 ($6400 on FanDuel)

Hutchinson has not exactly provided average goaltending for Winnipeg but he has been closer to the norm than Ondrej Pavelec, who has given up nine goals on his last 52 shots. This is currently one real ugly stretch for the Winnipeg team who really has no one else to turn to since they sent Connor Hellebuyck back to the AHL. Hutchinson is likely to play against a Florida team that can be weak offensively at times. It is a high risk start but for the price, it could be high reward, too.

FANDUEL

Shane Prince — New York Islanders –$3000

If one wants to roll a huge set of bones on this then go right ahead with Prince as he was acquired by the New York Islanders on Monday. Prince is fast with pretty hood hands, and a damn amazing shot. The problem in Ottawa was that he was allegedly surpassed by some players. That is arguably not the case and Prince will get more chances with an Islanders team looking for more scoring depth. Worse comes to worse if there are VISA issues for whatever reason then Joseph Blandisi at $3100 may be an option also.

Jared Spurgeon — Minnesota Wild–$3100

This is fun only because Spurgeon is priced so low despite playing pretty good minutes. It is almost like the price is too damn low! We are half kidding here as again with defensemen, if you can punt them by playing a salary cap flier then go right ahead. He may not provide the most optimal chances for points but Spurgeon can get the occasional penalty and fire several shots on goal. Hey, that has to count for something after all, right?
