After 2 straight losses, Tim Lincecum yet again proved why is considered one of the elite pitchers of his generation. Lincey held the red-hot Twins to 3 hits, zero runs and fanned 12. How hot are the Twins you ask? It was the their 2nd loss in the last 10 games. Lincecum evened his record up at 6-6, although any Giants pitcher right now can attest the losses due to the Giants lack of run support (Madison Bumgarner knows this too well). His 113 K’s put him just a handful of strikeouts behind the league leaders.

It was a pitchers duel in the nation’s capital with Michael Pineda squaring off against Jason Marquis, both going for their 8th win of the season. After giving up 12 hits and 4 runs in his previous outing, Marquis blanked the Mariners through 8 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 3BB. Pineda was equally as good, also shutting out the Nats through 7 innings and whiffing 9. Neither pitcher received the decision in the 1-0 Nationals win. Although Pineda may see limited innings towards the end of the season, he has clearly become an absolute must for keeper leagues.

Chris Capuano dazzled at Citi Field against the helpless A’s. He shut them out through 6 innings and struckout 7. It was his 4th straight Quality Start in a row and although his record stands at 6-7, he actually held opponents to 2 ER in 3 of the losses.

Daniel Hudson has quietly turned his season around after losing the first 4 games of the season. He improved to 9-5 with the win over Kansas last night and a little quick math will tell us that he is 9-1 in his last 10 decisions. Hopefully some of you were able to buy low early on, but for those who didn't… TOO LAAAATTE!

Chris Carpenter led St. Louis to a 12-2 win over the first place Phillies. Carpenter earned only his 2nd win of the season and his first in the last 8 games. His 2011 numbers (4.26 ERA/1.35 WHIP/.282 BAA) are well above his career (3.82/1.28/.261) due to a handful of bad outings, but it appears that there is a significant amount of bad luck associated with him not earning wins. Out 16 games started, 9 have resulted in a loss or no-decision in which he held the other team to 3 runs or less. Carpenter certainly has a lot of pressure on him this year with the loss of Adam Wainwright and now the big bat of Albert Pujols, but one can easily argue that now would be the time to buy low!

On the opposite side of the mound Roy Oswalt felt the pain, literally, as he took himself out in the 3rd inning due to lower back tightness. As of right now he will definitely miss his next start against Boston and possibly further.
