2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Mariano Rivera Hits 1000, Buster Posey Injured & More
As an A's fan I still have nightmares about this man rounding the bases and pumping his fists – this is a little belated poetic justice.
Carl Crawford continued his resurgence with a 4-hit, 3-run, 2-RBI day. After an atrocious .155 average for April, he is batting .308 in May, let's hope you stayed patient with him and didn't trade him for pennies on the dollar.
Boston destroyed the first place Indians 14-2, on a 7-run 1st inning off of Mike Talbot.
Buster Posey was injured by Emilio Bonifacio in the 12th inning last night guarding home plate. According to Matt Snyder of CBSSports.com, the injury appeared to be on his lower left leg and he had to be helped off the field. Posey will have an MRI today but you better start scouring the waiver wire. Jonathan Lucroy and Ramon Hernandez are both owned in around 30% of leagues and have put together solid season so far.
Speaking of injuries, Hanley Ramirez fouled a ball off his right foot and is questionable for today’s game in San Fran.
Jay Bruce is the hottest player in the league of the last week (.522, 4 HR, 9 RBI, 1.690 OPS). A hot week, coupled with a hot May has him sitting squarely in the Top-10 of fantasy outfielders.
Philadelphia and Cincinnati had a real barnburner last night going 19 innings before Raul Ibanez drove in Jimmy Rollins. The Reds used 7 pitchers and the Phillies used 9. The game was the longest of the season so far at 6 hours and 11 minutes and Roy Halladay forgot he even started the game.
Matt Kemp continues his hot streak hitting another homer (5 HR in last 9 games).
Andrew Jones who shows up to play every once in a while hit 2 home runs in the Yankees win over the Jays. Jose Bautista was 1-3 with no home runs, which means he will hit 2-3 dingers tonight.
Top pitchers going Thursday: Cliff Lee, Max Scherzer, Brett Anderson and the risen from the dead Ryan Vogelsong. With all the injuries to back-end pitchers, Ryan Vogelsong is worth a flyer. He is pitching well on a solid team in a pitchers park and you can't ask for more from a back-end starter.
Not a good week for Brian Fuentes or his owners. He's given up a run in three straight outings, all losses, and the topper, he decided to scream at the coach. That all adds up to demotion, which happened today as Grant Balfour is the new closer. Unless you are desperate for a short-term add, you should stay away from Balfour as he's nothing special and Andrew Bailey should be coming of the DL soon.
2006 Cy Young Winner, Brandon Webb went 6-innings in a rookie league game on Wednesday. He threw a total of 79 pitches, 55 for strikes. Anything he gives the Rangers is gravy, but he is still missing some pop on his fastball.
Finally, Thursday, May 26, 1993 is the anniversary of one of the great bloopers in baseball history:
