Philadelphia Eagles

There is a lot of intrigue surrounding the Eagles WR corps heading in to this season. Comeback player of the year candidate Jeremy Maclin has recovered from an ACL tear and has announced he will be ready to go for week 1. His current ADP (63.06) ranks him as the No. 28 WR coming off the board. With Desean Jackson now playing in the nation’s capital, Maclin has the potential to be a top 10 WR. Riley Cooper has missed a lot of time due to a foot injury, and it may cost him playing time. Rookie WR Jordan Matthews reportedly has dealt with struggles of his own this summer. The Vanderbilt standout is now finally getting some opportunities with the first team and has looked great in the red zone. Brad Smith is quickly ascending up the Eagles depth chart and is expected to earn a roster spot. For the first time in his career, it’s looking like Smith will be used primarily out of the slot. He will still be utilized as a weapon on special teams as well.

It looks like TEs Brent Celek and Zach Ertz will be splitting touches again this season. Last year they combined for 68 receptions, 971 yards and 10 TDs, with Celek having a slight edge in production. These would be great numbers for one TE, for two not so much. In 2014, Celek is expected to get the bulk of the work between the 20s, while Ertz handles red zone duty and should significantly increase his TD total from 2013. Both TEs will of course be utilized everywhere on the field, this is based on majority workload. Ertz is absolutely not going to be a non-factor between the 20s and Celek will catch some TDs. Ertz ADP (107.76) has him ranked as the No. 12 TE off the board and Celek is going undrafted. If their production is even close, Celek obviously comes at a much better value.

New York Giants

Sad news for Giants 23-year-old RB David Wilson, he suffered a setback with his neck injury and his career has come to an end. The former first-round pick showed loads of potential his rookie year, averaging 5.0 YPC with limited touches. Unfortunately he disappointed during his sophomore campaign before sustaining the neck injury that eventually concluded his tenure in the NFL. Wilson’s departure has increased both Rashad Jennings’ and Andre Williams’ fantasy value immensely. Jennings’ ADP of 64.11 is significantly higher than Williams’ ADP of 140.83. Williams comes much cheaper and may have almost as much value. Jennings has dealt with injury issues in the past, and although both RBs looked good in limited action during the HOF game. Williams really jumped off the screen as the Giants standout player.

The Giants young receivers have been making headlines in camp. Odell Beckham suffered a hamstring injury on July 22 and hasn’t practiced since. He’s getting healthy but isn’t expected to play in the Giants next preseason game. On the other hand, undrafted rookie out of Murray State Marcus Harris has been a standout in camp. He has shown excellent hands and the ability to break tackles. He has a very good chance to earn a roster spot and even get some playing time. Especially with Mario Manningham’s knee still very much an uncertainty.

Larry Donnell was named the G-men’s TE1, however he split first team reps during the HOF game with Daniel Fells. Athletic phenom Adrien Robinson is currently the TE3. He’s freakishly gifted but still a very raw talent.

Washington Redskins

There are three young RBs and two veterans battling for two (possibly three) roster spots. Veterans Darrel Young and Evan Royster, along with Lache Seastrunk, Chris Thompson and Silas Redd are all battling it out. They are all pretty much unproven in the NFL. My prediction is the ‘skins will go with Seastrunk and Redd (Young as well if they keep three). Redd will have to perform well in preseason to earn a roster spot.

Star WRs Pierre Garcon and Desean Jackson are both out with injuries. Garcon is dealing with a lingering hamstring injury, while D-Jax just hurt his ankle on August 6. Don’t expect either WR to play in this week’s preseason game, although Jackson has an outside shot to get on the field. This opens the door for Aldrick Robinson and rookie Ryan Grant to play with the first team and make an impression on their coaching staff. Both starting WRs are expected to be fully healthy for the start of the regular season.

Dallas Cowboys

Tony Romo is expected to make his preseason debut on August 16. After back surgery in December, the Cowboys are being very careful with their franchise QB. Romo is currently being drafted as the No. 12 QB with an ADP of 93.61. His value may drop or raise depending on how healthy he looks during preseason action. His current ADP is fair value for the up-and-down QB.

While Demarco Murray is the undisputed RB1 in the Cowboys backfield, Lance Dunbar may see an increase in touches this season. Scott Linehan wants to use him as a change-of-pace back and deploy him similarly to how he used Reggie Bush in Detroit, just less frequently. He is a versatile back and a tremendous handcuff for Murray, who is no stranger to injury.

Good news for all the Cowboys fantasy options. Their offensive line has been dominant in camp. It is possible the Cowboys awful defense could be helping the O-line look stronger than it actually is, but they’ve been so great that it can’t all be defensive shortcomings. First-round pick Zack Martin has been particularly excellent.
