The Fix always has a full breakdown of significant NHL slates for our Front Office subscribers, but now we’re also going to be highlighting a few value plays for everyone on most days with big NHL slates. Below you’ll find three or four players who are cheap and undervalued in today’s DraftKings contests.
If you’d like to read our full breakdown of tonight’s slate, complete with player rankings, you can become a Front Office member or purchase today’s breakdown individually right here.
Mattias Janmark – C – $3,000 – Dallas Stars
Janmark should continue to see time on the Stars’ second power play unit and had an assist the last time his team met the Sabres. He’ll be a beneficiary of some easier matchups down Buffalo’s depth chart, while sharing the ice with Jason Spezza on the Stars second line. Consider teammate Ales Hemsky, who comes in at a very reasonable $3,700, to be another good value pick from the Stars tonight.
Ryan Spooner – C – $3,900 – Boston Bruins
Spooner skates on Boston’s third line, but his real value stems from the time he will spend on the Bruins top power play, which is currently the best in the league.
Rob Scuderi – D – $2,500 – Pittsburgh Penguins
This is not a joke. Scuderi was recently promoted to the top pairing alongside Kris Letang, and while Scuderi’s offensive upside is extremely limited, he will be surrounded by a lot of players who don’t have that problem. There’s a lot of potential for Scuderi to luck into a goal or an assist, while playing major minutes against a team who likes to shoot the puck – meaning the likelihood for some blocked shots as well. If you are in a bind, Scuderi isn’t a bad cheap option tonight.
