The Daily Fantasy Baseball Fix: Julio Teheran Set To Debut For Braves In Philadelphia
Awkward Line: Cliff Lee of the Phillies earned the loss in a seven inning effort in which he allowed nine hits, one walk and struck out 16 Braves. Fresh off a DUI, Derek Lowe earned the win for Atlanta who won it’s sixth straight game, the longest current winning streak in MLB.
Twenty year-old Julio Teheran of the Atlanta Braves will make his Major League debut on Saturday against the Phillies in a spot start. Teheran is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA and a .118 BAA in five starts at Triple-A Gwinnett so far in 2011. Teheran has been informed by Atlanta that he will be sent back to Gwinnett immediately following his start.
In his first taste of Major League ball, Eric Hosmer of the Royals went 0/2 with two strikeouts, two walks and a stolen base.
Happy belated 80th birthday to the “Say Hey” kid, Willie Mays,
In need of some stolen bases? Jason Bourgeois of the Astros has swiped six bags in the last seven days while batting .526 with a 1.275 OPS. Bourgeois is currently owned in only 11% of Yahoo! leagues but may find playing time slightly limited with a crowded OF in Houston.
Lance Berkman has 10 RBIs in his last 15 at bats. Gross.
Ike Davis of the Mets slapped his seventh round tripper of the season off of Hiroki Kuroda of the Dodgers. Davis is now hitting .310 on the season, but with a BABIP of .358, we may see a slight regression in the near future. Could be a good time to sell high on Ike to a dumb Mutts fan.
Andre Ethier extended his hitting streak to 30 games.
Jonathan Broxton of the Dodgers officially hit the 15-day DL with an apparent bone bruise in his elbow. Broxton won’t throw a ball for two to three weeks, and in his absence, Vincente Padilla is expected to get the bulk of the save opportunities for the Doyers.
In his last two starts, Colby Lewis of the Rangers is 1-1, with two quality starts, in 17 innings pitched, a 17:2 K:BB ratio, a 2.81 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. At 54% owned in Yahoo! leagues, Lewis should be rostered in twelve team mixed leagues and greater as he looks to be coming back to life.
Jaime Garcia pitched his 2nd complete game of the year and is now 4-0. He held the Brewers to 2 hits, striking out 8 and walking 1 on only 102 pitches. Garcia is on track to beat his amazing 2010 numbers with a 1.99 ERA & 0.97 WHIP through 7 starts.
Francisco Cordero (5), Mark Melancon (1), Frank Francisco (2), Francisco Rodriguez (8), Sean Burnett (4), Mariano Rivera (12) and Brian Fuentes (8) each earned saves last night.
Pitching duels I will be watching tomorrow: Kyle Lohse (STL) vs. Yovani Gallardo (MIL), Justin Verlander (DET) vs. Ricky Romerso (TOR) and Julio Teheran (ATL) vs. Kyle Kendrick (PHI).
