The Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Zack Greinke Gets First Win of Season & Other News
WIth his second walk-off hit of the homestand, Carl Crawford is starting to look like the player that demanded $142 million this past off season from the Boston Red Sox. Crawford blasted a Jim Hoey pitch off the “Green Monstah” to score pinch runner, and recently called up Jose Iglesias in the bottom of the 11th inning.
Josh Willingham of the A’s went 2/4 with a home run, five RBIs and two runs scored.
Zack Greinke and the Brew Crew slipped by Mat Latos and the Friars 4-3 in Milawaukee yesterday. Greinke fanned nine Padres in six innings while earning his first win of the season. The loss sent Latos to “oh (no)” and five on the season and makes him “oh (no)” and ten in his last eleven.
Desmond Jennings was held out of the AAA lineup last night as the Durham Bulls were in Indianapolis to face the Indians. With Sam Fuld folding, many are suggesting the youngster could be getting the call to Tampa Bay shortly. In 30 games, Jennings is batting .306 with three home runs, twelve runs batted in and has scored 26 times. Additionally, Jennings is eight for eight in stolen base attempts.
The Seattle Mariners became the seventh former MLB employer of the ever-enjoyable Milton Bradley yesterday. According to the Mariners
official website, Jack Zduriencik, the Mariners GM, stated “We felt Milton was not part of our future and not part of our present.” The temperamental outfielder was designated for assignment after batting just .218 with two round trippers in 115 at bats.Flashback to December 12, 2005: The Los Angeles Dodgers traded the aforementioned Milton Bradley along with infielder Antonio Perez to the Oakland Athletics for minor leaguer Andre Ethier. Yes, the Andre Ethier who just had his 30-game hit streak snapped. (Homer Simpson voice) D’oh!
Trevor Cahill improved to 6-0 yesterday as the Athletics beat the Rangers, 7-2. Cahill allowed one run on five hits, while striking out seven and walking just one. Cahill now owns a stellar 1.72 ERA in seven starts in 2011.
Huston Street (12), John Axford (6), Ryan Madson (4) and Joel Hanrahan (11) each earned saves yesterday.
Pitching duels I will be watching today: Jon Lester (BOS) vs. Kyle Drabek (TOR),
