Tigers' Justin Verlander Dominates Again & Other Fantasy Baseball News

Picture

Justin Verlander’s confidence level is through the roof right now so it was no surprise he dominated the Royals. He continued where he left off from his no-hitter earlier in the week and held Kansas City hitless another 5 2/3 innings before Melky Cabrera hit a triple. Verlander’s final line was 8 IP / 2 H / 1 R / 3 BB / 7 K

Whether its bad luck or karma, Madison Bumgarner needs to start carrying around a rabbit’s foot. After a rough start through the first four games, Bumgarner has pitched quite good through his last four but yet is still winless. In fact, in the last four, he has only given up 5 earned runs, pitched over 6 innings in all of them and has 25 Ks. The problem is that MadBum is not getting enough run support, although neither are any of the other starters, but yet the Giants are finding ways to win and stand on top of the NL West. At 0-6, fantasy owners are probably getting pretty antsy to dish him now and if you’re smart, you’ll make a move. The wins will come!

Logan Morrison returned Friday after a stint on the DL and hit a home run.

Matt Holliday has burn marks on his hands, from this super-ridiculous hot bat. Holliday went 3-5 against the Reds, his 16th multi-hit game so far and brought his average back up to .398.

Guess who’s good? No, not Shania Twain, although she is good in a different way. I was referring to Jeremy Hellickson. Hellboy threw his first complete game against the O’s, only allowing 4 hits and bringing his season ERA down to 2.98. Hellickson has 14 straight scoreless innings going right now (both against Baltimore).

Brandon Beachy was anything but Peachy last night. He only lasted 2 innings against the Phillies before being pulled with a left oblique strain. Interesting to note that even with 6 quality starts he only has 1 win. Guess its better than having none like Bumgarner.

Clayton Kershaw looked like what we've been expecting him to look like… a stud. He pitched 7 innings of 3-hit ball and K'd 11. Kershaw lowered his season ERA to 2.75 and is 4th in strikeouts in the NL with 64.

On this day in 1996, Dwight Gooden became the eighth Yankee to toss a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

After getting knocked around by Detroit last week, Ricky Romero came back with a vengeance against Minnesota, holding them to 4 hits over 8.2 innings.

Jose Bautista helped secure the win for Romero going 3-4 with his 12 home run tied for best in the majors with Granderson.

After an epic start to the season, Jered Weaver has lost his last 3 games. He’s given up 11 of his 16 total runs in the losses, but there’s no reason to get worried, he should be back on track next week when he faces the Mariners.

White Sox’s newly appointed closer, Sergio Santos, has pitched the equivalent of two complete game shutouts. In 18 innings, he has only given up 8 hits while striking out a whopping 22.

Adrian Gonzalez hit his 6th home run in the last 8 games. Through that stretch he’s scored 9 runs, driven in 10 and raised his average up from .305 to .329.

Today’s matchup of the day is CC Sabathia against Josh Beckett. I’m also interested to see how Johnny Cueto does in his 2nd game back.
