Young Guns: Holy Jhoulys, Batman!
This is what the Rockies staff looks like:
Ubaldo + JDL = 8-0 (ERA 0.79, 3.91)
Rest of Staff = 2-6 (ERA 7.33, 5.52, 5.63)
Enter Jhoulys Chacin. In 2009, Baseball America listed Chacin as the #45 overall prospect. In four starts this season at AAA Colorado Springs, Jhoulys is 3-0, with a 1.69 ERA and a 2:1 K/BB ratio. In three of his four starts with the Sky Sox, Jhoulys did not allow an earned run. Batman, I think we’ve found your new “Robin.”
Jhoulys made his first start for the Rockies yesterday at San Francisco. Chacin fired seven innings of one-hit, shut-out baseball while striking out seven and walking only three Giants to earn the win. His next trip to the hill will be Saturday 5/8 at the Dodgers. Pick him up immediately if you’re interested, he may not be available after his next start.
