2012 Fantasy Football, Week 7 Free Agent Fix: Josh Gordon A Nice Bye Week Play

Every week, we’ll scan the matchups and provide you with two or three favorable options that are available in the majority of Fantasy Leagues. This week, the Free Agent Fix serves up a QB with a tantalizing matchup and a WR with big-time sleeper potential.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Buffalo Bills
Clearly, Ryan Fitzpatrick’s performance over the past two weeks – 279 passing yards, 0 TD, 1 INT – left a lot to be desired. But he has proven in the past that he’s more than capable of putting up big numbers against a poor pass defense. In Weeks 3 and 4 against the Joe Haden-less Browns and the sieve-like secondary of New England, Fitzpatrick threw for 558 yards and seven touchdowns.
In Week 7, the Bills face a Tennessee defense that has allowed a whopping 292 yards per game through the air. Opposing quarterbacks have completed 72% of their passes against the Titans and compiled a collective passer rating of 107.9, both worst in the NFL. We like the matchup enough to recommend Fitzpatrick (54% owned in Yahoo leagues) to any owner whose starting quarterback is on a bye week.
Josh Gordon, WR, Cleveland Browns
Browns rookie Josh Gordon – owned in just 39% of Yahoo leagues – may have just 12 receptions on the year but he’s made the most of them, averaging an NFL-best 22.8 yards per catch. It’s not often we recommend a receiver with a two-catch-per-game average, but there are signs that Gordon’s workload will be increasing in the near future. First, Gordon has been targeted 12 times in the last two weeks after seeing just 14 targets through the Browns’ first four games. Second, Greg Little continues to drop passes at an astonishing rate, leaving in doubt his long-term status as Cleveland’s #1 WR.
With rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden on the rise, Gordon makes for a solid sleeper if you have a roster slot available.
