2016 Fantasy Football, Week 9 Buy/Sell: Jonathan Stewart and Blake Bortles

In this article, Eric suggests a pair of names to target and trade in your season long fantasy football leagues before the upcoming trade deadline. Have any other buy/sell targets? Drop them in the comments below.

Buy: Wide Receiver Alshon Jeffery | Bears

No matter what teams’ jersey he is wearing next Sunday, odds are Alshon will be a stud in the game. He has been up and down all year, especially without Cutler under the helm of the Bears offense. With him back at QB, Alshon went for 63 yards and his first TD of the year. Once those touchdowns begin to come more often, he will become an elite WR 1 as a force to be reckoned with. While having one of the easiest remaining lineups down the stretch this guy could be key to your cog when it comes down to winning the fantasy championship. Go ahead and pull the trigger on this trade for the right price.

Buy: Running Back Jonathan Stewart | Panthers

Don’t look now, but Jonathan Stewart is back. After missing 3 games and underperforming very much in the first 2 games of the season he has absolutely manhandled the Saints, and the Cardinals. The Saints game could have been predicted as they are arguably the worst D, the Cards game was more of a surprise. He came out of the gates tumbling for 95 yards and 2 TDs on the ground, along with a 25 yard catch. With the final 3 games for the Panthers coming against defenses in the bottom 10 for run defense, and the Panthers having to play their stars as they’re fighting for playoff lives this could end being the best running on your team by the time the season is over. Buy now, or forever hold your peace.

Sell: Quarterback Blake Bortles | Jaguars

Bortles is one of the few cases around the NFL of players who are bad in real life, but studs in fantasy football. It’s hard to tell when the world will come crashing down on Bortles fantasy relevance, looking ahead it seems that will come in week 12. Starting then he will begin a string of games facing the number 1, 2, 4, and 5 defenses in a row. If you’re looking to rid yourself of Bortles and hoping to get a decent profit in return, maybe you can find that one Jags fan in your league who will gladly take him off your hands. Another thing hindering Bortles is the amount of drops his WR core has had this year.

Sell: Wide Receiver Allen Hurns | Jaguars

With his biggest game coming in week 8 of the NFL season, this has the looks of a 1 game fluke breakout. Expected to be second fiddle to A-Rob all season, neither have flourished in a passing game that is just downright awful, unless it’s garbage time. If you’re content with having a WR on your roster who through 7 games his most yards are 98, then go ahead and keep him. It would best to try and sell him for a high upside WR in the right situation, for example Lions WR Golden Tate, who in the past 2 games is only 2 targets behind Marvin Jones.
