Week 7’s Double Dippers…and Mat Latos

Mat Latos

Fantasy Baseball’s Pitching Line of the Week:

Mat Latos (SP-SD) 9IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER/BB, 6K

In his last two trips to the mound, Mat Latos has pitched a total of 17 innings, collected 2 wins, allowed only three hits while striking out fifteen and walking none. Yes, that’s a 15:0 K:BB ratio. Think this is new to Latos? Think again. In 2009, with Fort Wayne (A) and San Antonio (AA), Mat was 8-1 in 13 starts, pitching 72.1 innings, striking out 73 and walking only 12 batters. He finished the season with a 1.37 ERA. Additionally, Latos was selected to the Texas League All-Star Team and was a Futures Game selection in 2009. Mat is currently owned in only 36% of Y! fantasy baseball leagues.

The “Double Dipper” is a starting pitcher who will get two starts in the same week. Each  Sunday we will preview top three options in each league and highlight streaming options for players owned in less than 50% of Y! leagues.

Top 3 NL Double Dippers:

Chris Carpenter/St. Louis (@WAS, vs. ANA) – Looking to rebound from his only loss this season
Roy Halladay/Philadelphia (vs. PIT, vs. BOS) – The Red Sox won’t recognize his new split-fingered change-up
Josh Johnson/Florida (vs. Ari, @CHW) – Has 10 or more K’s twice this season.

Top 3 AL Double Dippers

Zack Greinke/KC (@BAL, vs. COL) – Great Ratios despite 1-4 record
Felix Hernandez/Seattle (@OAK, @SD) – Nobody benches the King, Nobody.
David Price (vs. CLE, @HOU) – Crazy Ratios, Won 5 of 7 starts.

Warning: Streaming can be lethal. The following are owned in less than 50% of Y! leagues.

Mat Latos/San Diego (vs. SF, @SEA) – See Above. Will need run support facing Jonathan “Dirty” Sanchez and King Felix.
Clayton Richard/San Diego (vs. SF, @SEA) – Has not allowed more than 3 ER in any start this season.
Johnny Cueto/Cincy (vs. MIL, @MIL) – Last 3 Starts: 2 W, 19:3 K:BB ratio.

Don’t Touch ‘Em
