Always double check team’s official lineups and the weather prior to submitting your lineups.
Matt Andriese | Rays | $7,600 (FD) – The Rays get the Marlins at the Trop tonight in Tampa Bay with an over/under that current sits at 8.5 with Miami’s implied team total about 3.9. Since ‘14, current Marlins bats rank 26th in the league in terms of wOBA (.306) and 12th in strikeouts (20.6% K%) against right-handed pitchers. And although this seems to play well for the young righty it’s important to note that he doesn’t miss bats all that much and the ERA estimators believe his 2.11 mark should be more in the 4.79 (xFIP) to 4.77 (SIERA) range. All that sad, he is the best value of tonight’s slate on FanDuel according the RotoQL model given the risk/reward.
Blake Swihart/Ryan Hanigan | Red Sox | $2,200/$2,300 (FD) – Both of the Red Sox catchers come in as tonight’s best value for FanDuel tonight behind the plate. The Sox draw the Rockies and soft-tossing Chad Bettis at Fenway with a current game total of 9.5. Boston is the heavy favorite right now (-195) and carry an implied team total of 5.5 at the time of this writing. We try not to target players who project to hit towards the bottom of the order because that limits their chances for at-bats, but either of these guys should hold it down tonight in terms of value. Check lineups when they’re announced, but if I had to pick one I’d spend the extra $100 on Hanigan.
Steve Pearce | Rays | $3,600 (FD) – Pearce is projected to hit fourth at home tonight against left-hander Justin Nicolino of the Marlins. The Rays are a big favorite (-200) and have an implied run total of 5 with a game total of 8.5 per our friends in Las Vegas. Pearce owns a career .370 wOBA and a .234 ISO against opposing southpaws. Nicolino has allowed a .330 wOBA and 10 homers to opposing righties in his short career. Both and Brandon Guyer could go Dong City tonight in Tampa.
Luis Valbuena | Astros | $2,400 (FD) – The Astros’ utility man has struggled to start the season, but he went yard in yesterday’s tilt and gets the platoon advantage today against right-hander Tyler Wilson. Valbuena owns a career .311 wOBA and .162 ISO against right-handed pitching and Wilson has allowed just a couple of more homers and a slightly higher wOBA to opposite handed hitters over the course of his short career. With a fair price, a fine matchup and a game total of 9, Valbuena makes for a fine value as long as he’s in the lineup.
