Reinforcements on schedule to arrive for the Yankees
The injured boys from the Bronx are about to get some well needed assistance from some familiar faces. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Giancarlo Stanton might be back with the team as early as Tuesday. Baseball fans and fantasy lovers rejoice.
Giancarlo has obliterated balls in his 2 rehab assignments with the High-A Tampa Tarpons. He was 4 for 7 with 3 home runs, 4 RBIs 1 strikeout and no walks. No challenge in Florida’s Gulf Coast for the Bronx Bomber so time to move to some more challenging Triple-A ball with the Rail Riders in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA. There he will be joined by his buddy Aaron Judge who is working his way back from the injured oblique which has sidelined him since April 20th.
Once Stanton and Judge are back, give them some time to adjust to get back to producing like times of old. They will be big 2nd half contributors, as long as they can swat away the injury bug. I would wait a few games to see their usage as you know the Yankees do not want to rush them back.
The Yankees will have some interesting roster decisions to make in the next week. What to do with Clint Frazier? Should he go down and get regular reps to improve his defensive outfield play, be dangled on the trading block or sent to the bench to help out when a bat is needed. Kendrys Morales just hit the IL and that was perfectly timed as he has been a ground ball machine since joining the Pinstripes. Cameron Maybin could be the odd man out as Brett Gardner isn’t going anywhere, right? Must be nice problems to have for a team that has current sole possession of first place over the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East, albeit ½ game.
