2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Corey Hart Blasts Three Homers, Jose Bautista Strikes Again
Denard Span went 3-for-5 with a round tripper, two runs batted in and a stolen base. Matt Kemp was 1-for-4 with a home run and stolen base.
Jose Bautista blasted his league leading 19th home run of the season last night in a 3-1 Blue Jays win in the Bronx. Does he have a legit shot at the Triple Crown?
Chase Utley returned to baseball last night, going 0-5. Philly slapped the Reds 10-3, so at least Utley was there for moral support.
Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz returned to the Rangers and in their first game back both homered. Hot Damn – that’s how you do it Chase Utley! Alexi Ogando pitched a shutout in celebration of their return, only allowing 5 hits and striking out 6. He is now 5-0.
Jon Jay, as recommended in Jesse’s Waiver Wire column yesterday, went 3-for-5 with a stolen base in a Cardinals win over the Friars in San Diego. Jay has twelve hits in his last seven games.
Asdrubal Cabrera continues to rake, going 3-for-4, with a home run, two runs batted in and one run scored in a 3-2 Indians victory over the Red Sox. Cabrera is currently hitting .312, up from .262 at the end of April. In case you’ve been in a war or on another planet, the Indians have the best record in the league at 30-15. Funny thing is that Shin-Soo Choo and Carlos Santana are still struggling.
Bust of the year Carl Crawford, hit a solo shot against the Indians, but it’s hardly a sign that he’s bust-ing out.
After tripping up over 2B, Dustin Pedroia is doubtful for today's game in Cleveland. His .255 average won't exactly be missed…
Jered Weaver (6-4) earned a no-decision in an seven inning effort last night against the Athletics. Weaver surrendered one earned run on five hits, while walking three and striking out two. Weaver went 6-0 in March/April but hasn’t been able to find a win in May.
Albert Pujols hit a home run for the first time in 105 at bats.
Brian Fuentes faced one batter, forked up a run which gave him the loss. He is now 1-7 and Andrew Bailey is thankfully on track to return later this week.
Former All-Star, Edinson Volquez of the Reds, was optioned to AAA Louisville on Monday following a rough start to 2011 and some questionable remarks on Sunday. From Mark Sheldon at MLB.com: "I think everybody has to step up and start getting some runs," Volquez said on Sunday. "The last five games, we've scored how many runs? Thirteen in five games? It's not the way we were playing last year. We're better than that." Well, I guess he’ll have some time to think about that while taking the hill for the Bats.
Chris Perez (13), Brandon League (11), Fernando Salas (8) and Jordan Walden (9) each earned saves last night.
