2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Justin Verlander Wins 17th & Bryce Harper Gets Ejected
Justin Verlander won his league leading 17th game, giving up 3 runs and striking out 10 against the Tribe. Although he does have some strong competition for the Cy Young, no one can deny the fact that he leads the league in wins, strikeouts, WHIP & BAA, plus has a no-hitter under his belt.
Bryce Harper just can’t seem to play it cool. Harper was ejected after getting in the umpire’s face over a strike 3 call. We may need to get this kid his own Yoda or Mr. Miyagi.
Albert Pujols led the Cardinals over the Brew Crew going 4-4 with a home run. Since the AS Break, Big Bad Albert is averaging a homer every 11.2 AB compared to the first half of the season where he was hitting one every 16.67. Chris Carpenter improved to 8-8 on the year and is 7-1 in his last 10 starts.
Johnny Cueto bounced back after a bad start against the Cubs. He shutout the Rockies over 7 innings and held them to only 3 hits. Cueto’s 1.94 ERA is only behind Jered Weaver’s 1.78 ERA for league best.
Robinson Cano slapped a grand-salami in the win over the Angels. Curtis Granderson also hit his 32nd dinger of the year, tying him with Tex for 2nd best behind Bautista. The Yanks are 1 game behind the Sox for 1st place.
Cameron Maybin continues to shine in 2011. He hit his 7th homer but more importantly swiped 2 to give him 29 on the year. Red-hot rookie Jesus Guzman also stole his 7th base against the Mets.
Desmond Jennings keeps showing off his speed hitting his 3rd triple in just 72 AB.
More on the rookie front, JD Martinez knocked in another 2 runs for the Astros and on the other side Paul Goldschmidt pinch-hit his 2nd homer.
