Phil Hughes

According to multiple sources, including Buster Olney, Phil Hughes’ velocity peaked at about 94 mph today, including reaching 93 in the sixth inning of a rehab start for Double-A Trenton. Hughes dished six and a third innings of three hit ball, issued two walks and fanned eight. Time to troll the waiver wire, he’s available in 64% of Y! leagues.

On this day in 1995, Eddie Murray became the 20th player in MLB history to collect his 3,000th hit.

Ricky Nolasco twirled a complete-game shutout, issuing two walks and striking out three in a Marlins 3-2 victory over the Athletics. There may be more of this Ricky on the way. Last July, Nolasco led all MLB pitchers by going 5-1 with 47 strikeout in six trips to the hill.

Breaking News: Hanley Ramirez blasted a two-run moon shot, his fifth on the season, and raised his batting average to .216. Watch Out!

Our friends at Hit Tracker tell us that Prince Fielder’s 486 foot moon shot on April 29th is still the longest homer of 2011 to date.

Cleveland Indians’ prospect, Jason Kipnis, slugged two homers last night for Triple-A Columbus. Kipnis is now batting .295 on the season with eleven bombs.

Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner have each been caught stealing ten times in 2011.

Ryan Braun went 3-for-4, knocked in a run (60th) and swiped a bag (19th) in a 5-2 Brewers loss to the Yanks in the Bronx.

Turn Two: Torii Hunter has grounded into a league leading 18 double plays.

Since May 1st, Jordan Zimmerman of the Nationals has eleven consecutive quality starts, only one in which he allowed more than two earned runs. Zimmerman is still available in 29% of Y! leagues.

Miguel Cabrera (18,19) and Ian Kinsler (10,11) each smacked two out of the park last night.

Sergio Santos (16), Neftali Feliz (16), Frank Francisco (9), Jordan Walden (18), Antonio Bastardo (3), Mariano Rivera (21), Craig Kimbrel (23), Heath Bell (23), Matt Capps (13), Francisco Cordero (16) each earned saves last night.
