2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Sabathia, Verlander Each Notch Their Tenth Win
CC beat Justin Verlander by only a few hours, but there is no better pitcher in the league right now than Verlander. He tossed another gem (8 innings, 0 earned runs, 14 strikeouts and only 4 hits). Over his last 3 games, stretching 26 innings, he has only given up 1 run.
Tony Sipp of the Cleveland Indians, gave new meaning to the abbreviation "rbi." In the 7th inning he balked in the winning run, a run "balked" in ("rbi") if you will. I know, terrible attempt at humor. To aid in your next game of trivial pursuit: According to Elias it was the first time a balk scored a run in a 1-0 game since 5/10/2006.
The "Big Four" of the Phillies is now down to three at least until August, as Roy Oswalt has a bulging disk in his back. He hasn't been very good his last eight starts with 1-5 record and a 4.06 ERA.
The Hero of the Mets 14-5 drubbing of the Texas Rangers was the immortal Lucas Duda 4 hits, 4 RBI's, 2 Runs. Also of note, it was the third straight loss for Alexi Ogando. He gave up 6 runs over 3 innings, though only 3 of them were earned.
Not to be out done by Mr. Duba, Joey Votto went 3/4 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI's.
Trevor Cahill had another strong outing (7.2 innings, 3 hits, 1 run) He seems to have regained his early season form with only two earned runs over the past 15+ innings
Jake Peavy may have a new career as a reliever. In his first ever relief appearance he filled in for the injured John Danks and struck out 7 in 4 innings.
One year ago today, Edwin Jackson took a winding road to history. After 149 pitchers, 8 walks, and a hit batter, he joined the elite club of pitchers that have thrown a no-hitter. This year he is 4-6 with a 4.13 ERA. I would say this is a surprising record for a pitcher with a no-hitter on his resume but last year he finished 6-10 with a 5.16 ERA. So he is arguably better this year.
What does this kid do if he doesn’t like his dinner?
